I do not blame all cops and nor do I blame cops in general. Cops are the errand boys for the State ... "the heavy hand of the state" if you want to used political science terminology.

I believe in respect for individual liberty. This is the principle on which this nation was founded. It is the principle on which law and the Constitution is supposed to be interpreted. "Individual rights and freedoms/Liberty - ABOVE - the legitimate authority of Gov't".

I have trotted out essays previously and will not do so here but, the one question every student should be able to answer is .... If we say we believe in Limited Gov't = Limited power of Gov't, what then is the power of Gov't limited to ?

Of course none can answer because we do not teach our kids the main principles on which this nation was founded.

Jefferson is speaking in relation to individual liberty ... essential liberty. The Gov't is not to make any law outside it's legitimate purview but especially not in relation to individual liberty.

The legitimate purview of Gov't is direct harm ... one person on another (Murder, Rape, Theft and so on) That's it in a nutshell.

In order to make law that messes with individual liberty outside that purview ... Gov't is supposed to be required to have "Overwhelming Majority" consent of we the people. This is the point of "Consent of the Governed".

Simple majority mandate is not enough. Every Gov't has this. If this were the case then there would be no point in putting essential liberty above the legitimate authority of Gov't.
This was termed "Tyranny of the Majority".

The founders created a system where Gov't power was limited. For 200 years Gov't has been trying to get that power back... and it has succeeded.
SCOTUS is a political clown show. They should all be dismissed for dereliction of duty - failure to interpret Law and the Constitution on the basis of the founding principles.

Heck, we do not even follow the Rule of Law anymore. Equal Justice under the law ... forget that nonsense .. Punishment should fit the crime .. what a bunch of hogwash
One person should not be responsible for the crime of another .. who came up with that nonsense. Presumption of innocence ... baaaah humbug.

It is now our "Patriotic Duty" to give up essential liberty.... but hey this is over risk of harm from an external threat that is very scary and terrifying..... a risk of harm that is 400 times less than the risk of harm from Walking.

Transparency in Gov't is gone. Our MSM is a propaganda arm of the Establishment Oligarchy, Political Elite, deep state who is now actively censoring any ideals that conflict with the cacophony of lies and false narrative thrust on the US public on a daily basis..

In 2013 it became legal for the National Security State to create and disseminate propaganda.

But don't worry .... just plug your ears and you will not hear the canaries in the coal mine of quazi Totalitarian police state.

People counter - Oh come on ... its not like living under Hitler or Stalin. Who said totalitarianism has to be like that ? This is a new and far more insidious evil that is engulfing us.

It is not like things are that bad now. The problem is the future. At some point Gov'ts go bad ... they all do. It only takes a few small factors to usher in a full on police state.

Like in any police state .. the police are just the errand boys. It is not the police that are the main problem here. Its the Gov't.

Right now we have this ugly Oligopoly-Bureaucracy Fusion Monster that is driving the people into a form of indentured servitude. Like any system there is an upper class and a lower class. Right now there is enough people doing well enough so that things are OK.

As wealth keeps moving from the middle class to the elite this is going o change. There will be another major economic downturn ..at some point. That is when things will get really testy.

it is at such times when authoritarian leaders arise and the chains of totalitarianism are fully unleashed.

You either comply physically or you resist physically. Both Brown and Garner resisted arrest physically. When one decides to do that, the results are usually less than optimal. I have been placed under arrest twice in my life, both while I was armed. I'm still here because I complied with their instructions, informed them I was carrying a firearm and DIDN'T resist even when one idiot cop took my firearm and threw it down on the cement damaging the nickle plating. I was mad as hell, but I know how to control my temper. In both cases I was released at the scene. In the case of the plating damage, I sued the department and they paid for a mechanical tune up as well as a brand new factory plating job (with some engraving they didn't complain about) and new grips. Thank you officer dumb-ass, the gun was already damaged from years of wearing it on my ankle banging it into stuff while working as an Armored Truck Courier. Officer dumb-ass was re-assigned from my area to a crappy neighborhood working a foot patrol instead of riding in a car. That's how you handle Police mis-conduct.

We are protesting disrespecting the flag, or national anthem, and the soldiers whom are represented by those things.

We are free to protest as well, including with our wallets, that's what makes this country great.

Interesting post, it appears you studied this subject well and was trying to get to the root cause, but to me this is like what happened...

The people are the root cause to their own problems, from buying stuff made in China, seeing their jobs leave to ridiculous laws that they had a hand at writing from their own ways at being un moral , disrespectful and trying to scam the system..

I don't align with the logical fallacy that believes that respecting authority = supporting fascism.

    Sorry.

That's again funny. You have no interest in the truth. Instead all that we see is how to lie with statistics. Do some homework - it is good for the soul and intellect. I have no interest in doing your homework for you. Any interest in this:

Sadly and perversely the war on cops perpetrated by the elite liberal progressives is responsible for the Ferguson Effect which is adding many more innocent minority victims resulting from increased lawlessness in our urban cities run by elite liberal progressives. It's tragic.

Read the book for much more. Obviously you won't but miracles do happen.

This however is what the elite liberal progressive mental giants completely fail to realize:

There is no disrespect of the flag or the soldiers, or for that matter the national anthem
Kneeling is not, and has never been a sings of disrespect
For what it’s worth, you can go into any sports bar during the national anthem an see most people ignoring the whole charade. I have never ever ever seen ANYONE in a sports bar stand for the national anthem... I have seen people sit, talk, eat, and drink during the anthem. Until this whole brouhaha, fans in the stands mostly patiently waited for the anthem to end... and started a rowdy cheer in anticipation of kick off even before the end of the anthem. The whole idea that the entire stadium was standing in reverence for the anthem is just hypocrisy

Sure you are... I hope you do. I think the nfl deserves to die for glorifying violence and ignoring issues such as concussions for far too long. So... protest on my friend

Of course there are bad people out there. There are also bad cops. The difference is that the bad people get punished for their actions, the cops do not.

Physically resisting arrest in the way that Garner did is no excuse to use a banned practice to kill someone.

Sorry but, these are simplistic arguments. In fact they are not really arguments all given no justification for claim is given.

The people of course vote so on this very superficial level folks often say "it was their fault". The problem with this argument is that the raging masses in general are very ignorant. The reason they are ignorant is that through 12 years of school they are not educated in the basic principles on which this nation was founded. "Individual rights and freedoms - ABOVE - the legitimate authority of Gov't"

In addition we do not educate kids in the basics of Philosophy (logic, logical fallacy, what constitutes a valid argument). Without these basic tools, how are the raging masses supposed to wade through the cacophony of fallacy and bad argument raining down on them on a daily basis from the Politicians, the Establishment and the MSM (which is owned and/or controlled by the establishment) ?

Without a basic level of education (in these specific areas) and with no fair and free media there is no such thing as functional democracy.

You are attributing individual actions to "The People". There is no "the people" in this context. There are only individual actions. Individual actions are easily overwhelmed by the ignorant raging masses.

The reason our manufacturing base and Jobs are gone is because of factors which are far to complicated for "average Joe" to understand .. and even non average Joe for that matter. It is the culmination of political decisions that were made over many decades. These decisions were influenced by "big money".

Every time a regulation or tax law gets made the Oligopoly is sitting at the table - and perhaps they have a right to be there. The problem is that the person who is supposed to be protecting the interest of the "we the people" is either in the pocket of, or influenced by, the Oligopoly.

The Oligopoly does not win every table but, over time, table after table, they win enough to tilt the rules of the game in their favor.

If the authority is fascist ... then supporting that authority is supporting fascism.

The fallacy that you desperately are trying to cling to is that supporting an quazi totalitarian police state ... is not supporting quazi totalitarianism.

    You are misguided.

I'm no Lib Prog but, you having to default to the " any time I come across ideas that conflict with my beliefs I will demonize the messenger by calling them a Lib Prog" ploy is quite humorous.

Another post that runs from the arguments presented and contains nothing but name calling and demonization.

What's tragic is your complete inability to make a coherent argument.

Colin Kaepernick is an uncle tom.

He promotes the establishment lie that police brutality only happens to black people. That police brutality is caused by white peoples racism rather than the corruption of those who have power and are above the law.

Your logic is very flawed, we used to be kind of respectful of each other..

That's tragically funny and ironic. I've presented now quotes and a reference to a source which completely blows the entire false narrative of police brutality and racism directed at minorities. What's truly tragic is your refusal to educate yourself.

Your "arguments" on this subject are identical to those of elite academic liberal progressives. Are you in denial of that fact as well as denial of the reality of police policies based on criminal behavior ??
