Merkel is losing her authority, or correctly, she lost a lot of it. Germany is sick of the left wing drift. They want to lurch back right. The third party has gained so much power, they can come close to brokering a new Chancellor. The German president has the fate of Germany in his hands.

Merkels prime problem is she welcomed the Muslims. This back lash has to be solved. She has to move right. If she will, she may survive to remain Chancellor. She is stubborn though.

She is accused of making no correct decisions. It has got that bad for her.

Well she doesn't really have any other options. If she loses the support from the moderate right she'll have to try to consolidate more support from the left.

Germany has Merkel, (Obama), and sorely needs a Trump to repair the damage she inflicted. Many Germans are beginnig to awaken and will try to save the remains of their country.

You could replace the word Merkel with Democrats in America and change Germany to America and you see the same freaking thing, America is sick of the left wing drift.

The scars of two world wars had left Germany in ruins. Her main cities were rubble. The spirit of the people broken. They had tossed their eggs into the basket of a lunatic who mesmerized the people to believe they were superior to all others. Not just race, as many would have you believe, but superior to all other countries. Like all evil empires before them they tried too bite off more than they could chew and it all collapsed. Too be defeated, shamed and ostracized the mighty warrior nation became a nation of sheep and allowed themselves to be scared to speak out for fear of being labeled bigots, Nazis, or racists. Those who had gone through the war just wanted peace at any cost. For a couple generations this worked as the younger trusted the older elders. As all nations learn, nationalism and pride in ones own race and country overcomes multiculturalism. Everything goes fairly smooth until one group feels threatened either culturally or economically. At present some are tired of being muzzled and not being listened too. They are tired of living in fear to speak their mind. I would venture to say some of the strife we are seeing in Germany is a mirror of what we will be experiencing in the states.

Funny how I discussed a woman not close to being born during WW2. Was she born in the 1940s perhaps? Well no, she was born in 1954 as I was then a sophomore in high school.

    I was in Germany from 1962- 64

I drove over much of Germany. I spent close to a full month in Berlin.

What I saw was a rebuilt west Germany. They were not eager for discussing Hitler. But did Hitler do a bit of good for Germany. I can't defend his wars nor would I nor his slaughter of people of Europe. But the man created a prosperous Germany. I feel FDR got his ideas from Adolph. Anyway, Adolph did manage to construct some fine super highways. I drove those highways and tell you today, they were magnificent. I never found myself in a single road jam on their highways. It was amazing to see how people can actually manage to drive on those highways and not get killed or in accidents. That is how good the design was at the time.

Merkel was a child when i was in Germany. I know only what I get from news sources what Germans make of her.

She is in trouble. I won't predict the outcome since I never voted in Germany for any of the Germans.

Now you take East Berlin. But for using dozers to move the damage around, it looked like WW2 ended a day before. It was so awful in the Communist sector of Berlin I would get accused of lying were I to tell you how bad it was under the Soviets. But the people doing the guarding to keep citizens from escaping were armed with machine guns. Guns kept Germans from escaping what the Soviets put there.

My wife was in Germany in 1949 and has pictures of the bombing of Cologne. I was there in 1993 and the city has been rebuilt but there were still some vestiges of damage. I agree the Auto Bonn is still a thing to envy. The older Germans still did not want to talk about Hitler or the concentration camps. The one I did notice was how they cherished the plots of land they owned and kept them immaculate. The younger Germans I met in Cologne and Munich were willing to talk about the influx of foreigner's into the country.

I got engaged to a lovely German Girl that lived in Berlin. She and her parents gave me first person accounts of the war. They fled the Soviets. When i was in Cologne, I saw the cathedral being reconstructed. I hear it goes on all the time. Berlin has a bombed out Protestant church and my black and white photos do not do justice so this will remind Germany and we what war can do.

If one looks closely at cities of Germany, some evidence of the war will be located. I was told the huge rubble piles were converted to parks.

I live in Germany. The country doesn't need a baboon like Trump. Might want to put away your American glasses when looking at other countries domestic affairs.
Merkel hasn't lost all of her authority, she is in a tricky situation at the moment though. Negotiations with the center FDP and the Green Party fell through and there are now three options, renewed coalition of her CDU and the SPD, a minority government (she doesn't like that thought but it works in other European countries), or new elections (could be held around Easter).
The far right AFD is far, far away from brokering the new chancellor, they themselves, of course, make that claim and take every chance they get to make themselves look bigger than they are. Beatrix von Storch is not a leader, she is one of two deputies of the far right AFD, in domestic politics she doesn't lead anything.
Save the "remains of the country"? I have to wonder where you people get your info from.
The major problem is that there is no realistic alternative to Merkel, she is extremely likely to be the next chancellor and govern for another four years.

Liberals, even with the disastrous results of their decisions staring them in the face, will never in a million years admit that they'd got it wrong.

Dont speak for all Germans. Thank you.

Merkel lost all authority in eastern Germany. She cant even step into our part of Germany without being attacked. Our nation is deeply divided.

The AfD had massive gains and dominates not just in the Eastern German States. The AfD made Merkels government break apart, which is a good thing. We finally have a oppossition party in Parliament. The time of the great silence is over.

And yes save our nation. I will not accept any left politics any longer. And if this cant be solved democratically, there will be another solution.

There are Alternatives for Merkel. And they will be used.

Unlike you (just look at your own comment), I never claimed to speak for all Germans. The AFD got 12,6% in the last election, one can interpret that in any way one wants.
Merkel's last government broke apart because the SPD said "no" to her. Whether you (singular) or I accept something or not doesn't change the big picture and I specifically said "realistic alternative", I leave wishful thinking to others.

Not sure if this was addressed to me. I'm neither conservative nor liberal.

The AfD got over 30% in the eastern states and in Saxony became strongest party. Its more than likely that the AfD will win state elections in Thüringen and Sachsen as well as Sachsen-Anhalt.

There is no need for wishful thinking. The AfD already is the most influential party because it broke the system parties silence cartel. The entire modd changed. It brought new winds into the dead parliament.

I'm aware of the numbers for individual states. This is about the general election of Sep 2017 and the AFD got 12,6%.
In federal politics, the AFD doesn't have any real power, they are part of the opposition in the Bundestag. Their gaining seats in parliament has changed the political landscape for sure and Merkel will have to reconsider her policies and her CDU, as well as other parties, will have to come to terms with that, but being part of the opposition means the AFD has little political power in Berlin.

The AfD already had more power than others before it even was in parliament. The system politicians are in panic, over 60 CDU minions lost their well paid office. The AfD is what this country needs. A internal immune system.

On the other side its more than clear that eastern germany does not accept west german bullshit anymore.

Sorry, no it wasn't meant for you, it was a spontaneous comment on Merkel's disastrous immigration policy and how it's now coming back to haunt her.

    lol

    That really is pretty funny....

The movements to "let people be what they want to be" has simply gone too far. People are ok with gay, they are ok with a lot. But the pendulum has swung too far and people are just sick and tired of being able to call themselves a unicorn if they want to.

The South Park episode with Stan's dad going through dolphin surgery was freaking hilarious ....
