Blacks vote for Democrats because they are the ones that oppose corporatism (Not all for sure) and support the middle class working man. If you were to take a look at Trump/Republican tax bill you would clearly see where the taxes on the middle class are going to go up, the taxes on the elites are going to decrease, and overall the programs that benefit the poor are going to be done away with in large part.

Just as a couple of examples, do you know where 70% of the heroin grown in the world comes from? It isn't South America, it is Tanzania a part of Australia. Do you know where 90% of the Fentanyl is manufactured? China, and Trump will not do anything to stop it.

Both parties are screwed up, however, the only one that is trying to make a change, and do what is rightis the Democratic Party.

Besides the excessive trolling going on around here, the argument presented in the opening post is rather horrible as well. JFK was president more than 50 years ago. The situation then was not the same as it is today. Believe it or not, but some things change. Let's look at taxes, because everybody loves discussing taxes.

When JFK took office, the top marginal tax rate was 91% and the lowest one 20%. Under those circumstances, I absolutely agree with him.

Such a high tax rate is a bad idea. It generates far too much incentive to game the system instead of doing something more productive. In reality, the tax rates effectively paid by wealthy individuals were much lower than the top marginal tax rate implies. Deductions were claimed for pretty much anything. Businesses also loaned pretty much anything to their employees, for example apartments, to avoid income taxes paid on ordinary salaries. In other words, finding and creating tax loopholes was the most rational occupation for somewhat wealthy people, but doesn't really generate anything meaningful for society as a whole.

Just to be clear, someone paying the full top marginal tax rate on the last $10 million of income (which almost nobody does in practice on a significant part of income), took home about $1 million in 1960 and takes home $6 million today. That's a factor of 6. This is HUGE!

The top marginal tax rate was lowered to 65% and the lowest one to 14% under JFK. This is still significantly higher than what we had during the last few years. Obviously, JFK's claim is not true if the top tax rate is, let's say, 1%. At that point only the people who have a purely ideological issue with the concept of taxes would even care about the income tax anymore. Any tax cut made translates pretty much proportionally into lower revenue and has a negligible effect on the economy.

In short, claiming that JFK would favor a tax cut now, when the situation is completely different, is absolutely baseless conjecture.

 

Strom Thurman switched from dems to GOP over the civil rights act.

He was the leader of the Dixiecrats in Congress.

 

Fiscally he was a conservative supply side economics proponent and militarily he was all about peace through strength. He was also big on the second amendment and the NRA. These are three strikes your out in today's DNC

 

Kennedy saw the benefits of having corporate tax levels competitive with the rest of the world just as Trump does now.

 

Republicans passed the civil Rights act.

What about his opinion on corporate taxes being at a level that is competitive with other countries? That's the big one today's Democrats detest and it's their main rallying cry against the Republican tax cut. JFK did not hate corporations like today's Democrats do and his pro corporations tax policy would get him kicked out of today's DNC

 

Trump mostly wanted a personal tax cut by the repeal of Jimmy Carter's Alt Min Tax on the rich.

The Alt Min Tax for individuals is staying. Nothing has changed.

There are lots of good things in the new tax bill including forcing Apple, Microsoft, Google, Walmart, and other tax cheats to pay their tax in full. They will have 8 years to pay the massive catch-up that the bill includes. After that corporations will NOT be able to evade taxes again.

A 21% tax rate on corporations is fine with me.

 

The bill is far from perfect but IMO the best part of it is what Democrats call the worst part and that's a tax cut for corporations. We need to be able to compete world wide and this will help achieve that goal.

 

You try and name which of this senate seats is still held by a Democrat.

The Alternative Minimum Tax was created by Ronald Reagan as part of the Tax Reform Act of 1986.

It remains.

As does the notorious carried interest deduction.

 

The good part is that just like Kennedy realized,this tax bill realizes corporations need to have a tax rate commensurate with other countries in order to compete in the world market

Kennedy's record and statements speak for themselves and he would not be welcome in today's DNC. He sounds like a pretty solid Republican though in today's world.
