Australian police accuse man of acting as North Korean economic agent ------------------- Police say the man -- a naturalized Australian citizen of Korean descent -- allegedly brokered the sale of missiles, missile components and expertise from North Korea to other international entities, and discussed the supply of weapons of mass destruction. ------------------- • "The man provided services to a Weapons of Mass Destruction Program and discussed the sale of specialist services and ballistic missile technology, with a view to generating income for the North Korean regime." • "Those discussions have included the establishment of a ballistic missile production facility, the supply of missile construction plans and the provision of North Korean technical specialists for training and development outside of North Korea." http://www.cnn.com/2017/12/16/asia/australia-nkorea-arrest/index.html ------------------ This seems like a very real threat, not so much to nation states, but if that kind of hardware falls into the hands of terrorists. If the man is found guilty, could that lead to the last screw up everyone will tolerate before a preemptive strike?
North Korea has been selling ballistic missiles for years. It has a big arms industry. They stopped a ship load of them on the way to Iran once.
Everyone in the world knows the U.S. is not shy from selling military hardware, but nuclear technology would be different.
I think this is significant because it points to the fact North Korea has no intention on being a responsible nuclear power, they will sell and sell to the highest bidder
Indeed. North Korea already tried to sell nuclear technology to Syria. http://www.spiegel.de/international...ia-s-al-kibar-nuclear-reactor-a-658663-2.html (page 2)
This is nuclear weapons we're talking about... not shoplifting, the consequences are destruction of the planet
No one cares, there isn't going to be any pre emptive strike. At the beginning of next campaigning season, the war drum will again be beat just as it is every year and just as it has been every year since the 50's. War will only occur if one side gets too far ahead of the other in the arms race.
Say, Kim, fancies himself an empathic, altruistic, cool guy and he hates, Trump, his supporters, and thinks, Hillary, should have won 1 000 000x over. Then has a nervous beak down after he finds Jesus and Allah in a dream. He knows becoming a Martyr isn't enough by himself to atone for his sins. He begins to loath his own people as much as the Trump supporters. Trump, gets impeached but the senate is likely to find him not guilty. And like J.F.K. in the Cuban missile crisis says he'll nuke unless they turn there boats -er I mean votes around. The senate doesn't and, Kim, nukes America. America nukes back, everybody is dead AND so has made Martyrs out of all the guys. They all go up to heaven and have 70 virgins.
It gets worse. Apparently he may have anthrax for sale too. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...litary-drills-depends-N-Koreas-behaviour.html
And actually you couldn't say, the personality of Kim is less broadcast then Trump. Trump, is a psychopathic, narcissist, misogynistic, pigheaded a**, but he's a business man not a General. He's not going to invest if his Generals say bad idea, because he knows nothing about warfare, he will be stopped from within if he demands something stupid to happen. As for Kim, let's contrast NK to a free country where media is free.
You should be more worried about the nation that sold it to North Korea. They didn't invent it on their own lol.
The world knows thousands of stories when the secret of a technology was guarded for centuries. But all these stories end with the same thing - all the secrets are spreading all over the world. Especially nowadays in times of such uncontrolled, rapid communication possibilities. Spreading nuclear technologies is a given fact which will happen sooner or later. There are just two things about it deserving mentioning: 1. Motivation. I don't want to have a nuclear bomb in my house. I am sure that a lot of states don't want it either. So if the situation makes the countries not to spend money on nuclear rockets it won't spread that much. North Korea has to invest most part of its budget to military, because otherwise they are not able to protect their country against the US and South Korean armies. For them nuclear rockets is a guarantee that their country won't fall the way as Iraq, Libya, etc. This actually will boost other countries to buy or to make nukes for themselves. It would give them the last resort for bargaining for their sovereignity. 2. The level of manufactury. There is no question that ISIS wanted the bomb and someday the terrorists would get at least weak and dirty bomb. And they will for sure use it. However the problem is that with all that proxy wars and peculiarities of politics and mistrust no one would believe that these guys made the bomb themselves. This is why the responsibility for it can be put on a real nuclear power which might be not responsible for that in reality. A terrorist can provoke the world nuclear war. The times when the US was the only superpower or times when USSR and USA were opposing each other can seem a golden age of humanity comparing to what we have in future. Unless we learn how to solve issue on the basis of international law. The states are ready for larger integration projects than just countries. And the survival will be achieved if the countries evolve to this condition. Otherwise we are all doomed to become victim of a single brainless fanatic.
Probably the same thing that happened when the US started selling nuclear technology to others. The world will have more nuclear states, shrug.
