So says the would be king, or as his supporters call him, Donald the Great and Mighty All Powerful Magnificent Leader.

Isn't it about time someone in the WH told Don that isn't true? White House officials and Justice Department lawyers aren't even meant to talk with each other about ongoing criminal investigations or civil enforcement actions, though there is some leeway granted for matters of national security. A 2007 Justice Department memorandum says the department will advise the White House of criminal or civil enforcement matters "only where it is important for the performance of the president's duties and where appropriate from a law enforcement perspective. This limitation recognizes the president's ability to perform his constitutional obligation to 'take care that the laws be faithfully executed' while ensuring that there is public confidence that the laws of the United States are administered and enforced in an impartial manner," the memo states.

Doesn't he understand there's a difference between helping to establish the DOJ's priorities but not telling it specifically who or what to investigate?

He also said, and this is hilarious............
"Mr. Trump disputed reports that suggested he does not have a detailed understanding of legislation, saying, “I know the details of taxes better than anybody. Better than the greatest C.P.A. I know the details of health care better than most, better than most.”

Later, he added that he knows more about “the big bills” debated in the Congress “than any president that’s ever been in office.”

We know he has delusions of grandeur but..............wow!

Michael Schmidt's session (taped thankfully) with Trump was extraordinary and breathtaking: it's worse than I thought. Most sane people know Trump is a buffoon and a pathological liar but the scary part is Trump actually believes the lies & nonsense he spews. He's totally nuts.......

He does. Clinton certainly did when he fired every US attorney that hadn't already resigned when he took office. So did Bush and Obama. The only honest complaint you can have a bout trump on that score is why he took so long to get around to it.

He should do what he wants; then we can get rid of him. The sooner the better.

He's such a joke. I can sort of see how people voted for him 'cause they didn't like Clinton. But why they still support him, this I cannot understand. He's a buffoon. A dangerous buffoon.

President Trump is correct. His constitutional authority supersedes any laws Congress passes or any regulations established by any department. The constitution is clear that it is the President's authority to "take care that the laws be faithfully executed." The Justice Department and all in it are subordinate to his authority. Bureaucrats always try to write themselves their own authority and to create their own power of course - a fundamental definition of tryanny. But the Constitution absolutely controls.

Actually, no if a bill passed by Congress is found to be constitution, the president is required to follow it. He doesn't get to pick and choose which laws he wants the justice department to enforce, nor does he have the authority to name any bill uconstitutional.

Trump held forth on Mueller’s investigation in a meandering 30-minute interview with The New York Times at his Mar-A-Lago resort in West Palm Beach, where he’s spending the holidays. No White House aides were present for the on-the-record conversation.

So said your source. This is Donald being Donald, and his "truthful hyperbole" fantasy during which he says totally outrageous thingss just to draw attention to himself. No one is supposed to take him seriously, including Donald.

"Truthful hyperbole" is a euphemism for lying, and Trump is proud of the term. "In his own autobiography, Trump used the phrase “truthful hyperbole,” a term coined by his ghostwriter referring to the flagrant truth-stretching that Trump employed, over and over, to help close sales. Trump apparently loved the wording, and went on to adopt it as his own."

    https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/01/donald-trump-lies-liar-effect-brain-214658

That says it all, I guess. The Times article is just a series of lies. Ho-hum, nothing new here. Trump has lied so much it is no longer an issue. We simply expect it of him.

Of course, the President can't control the DOJ. He knows that, or Rosenstein, Sessions, and Mueller would have been fired long ago.

Almost as shocking as you pretending to know Trump so intimately that you know whether he is telling the truth or not.

I doubt you've ever even met him yet somehow you know his knowledge level on all these matters.

    Sounds like magic powers.

The justice department is under the executive branch, so yes, he can do whatever he wants. All that nonsense about white house officials and justice department not talking with each other is... well, it's nonsense. The justice department IS white house.

I guess some people here need a lesson in how the U.S. Government works. There are three branches of government. There's the Judicial Branch, that is made up of the courts. There's the Legislative branch, that consists of Congress and their individual offices. Then there's the Executive Branch, which covers everything else. That means the justice department falls under the Executive branch. Who's in charge of the executive branch, you ask. Why, that's the President of the United States. That is Mr. Donald Trump. That means that The Justice Department is controlled by, and reports to, President Trump. Therefore, President Trump is correct.

Correct. The president doesn't rule over the congress except by veto. But he does rule over the DOJ.

Then how come our last three presidents fired almost every US attorney when they took office? It is within his authority to fire everyone, except perhaps the special council, in the DOJ. They serve at his pleasure. The question right now is not whether or not he can but whether or not it is politically expedient for him to do so..

When I read threads like this, and watch the raw display of ignorance by the Trump Team daily, I am convinced Idiocracy is a prescient documentary, and we are living in it.

That's one thing I couldn't figure out, I just couldn't see President G.W. Bush sending Tommy Chong to prison for manufacturing bongs.

    Bush wasn't allowed to intervene.

That sucks and has to change.

Don't blame Trump, blame the people. It's not like he's become like this since Nov 9, everyone knew what they were getting into.

Nixon faced impeachment charges, and was investigated by the judiciary committee which is part of the legislative branch.
