I just turned 70 and I've been listening to her music for several years now. She is a talented artist, and with cancelling her Israeli concert, it is safe to say she is a principled young woman too.

Oh look, folks. It's a picture of Lorde standing in front of bombed buildings and crying children, so that must mean that she supports war and mass murder. What a horrible person. Or at least, that's what we're supposed to think, I guess.

By contrast, what did 'Lorde' do in 2017 (after virtually disappearing along with a klatsch of other 'singers' I'd never heard of before, in 2015 and 2016)? But the funny thing is that I'm not 'knocking' Lorde... merely wondering what all the Lorde-buzz is about. Honestly, I'd never heard of her.
It's OK. The world's big enough for all of us. Hell, there are actually some people who thought the "Hunger Games" sagas were great cinema and paid money to watch these things in public theaters!

 

I have to agree the way they have treated her is beyond disgusting but there again it has brought out into the open this practice. This site which I notice has now added 'hatred of the US' probably because that is one of the ways the US far right are recruiting, used to be mainly about trying to ruin the career or threaten to ruin the career of those in college who were opposing what is going on in Israel (notice how much free speech there really is in the US!)

I am pretty sure this is also the site which had to be shut down for a bit by the FBI after it published threatening things against same.

Anyway that is the way it is. Such people cannot argue so they engage in attempted defamation of character and the attempt to destroy the person's right to work and future life chances - very threatening. Lorde should sue them.

I don't know where you are from but at the moment I think in the UK we have quite a healthy response going on against those trying to oppose free speech on Israel including claiming antisemitism to do this. People concerned can get involved. Here is one site working on this. You will note they describe themselves as 'Jews and others who say antizionism is NOT antisemitism.'

They were begun by a group of Labour Jews after the witch hunt began for supposed antisemites in the Labour Party following Corbyn becoming leader. Please note the site I gave the link to does take antisemitism very seriously - just as strongly against abusing that to stop criticism of Israel including antizionism.

Our courts have also proved themselves to be very good at protecting the UK from this intended attack on freedom of political thought. The two attempts they have tried, that is to force our Universities to take on a view of antsemitism which does not allow free speech or proper academic debate and the government trying to force English councils not to engage in BDS were both thrown out by them. It is however a continuous struggle. May is trying to trick Universities and councils to accept a definition of antisemitism which is even worse than the one which people already threw in the bin by claiming it is UK law when it is anything but.
