Nice try. Russian diplomacy brought this about, but it will have no effect on North Korea becoming a nuclear power. But at least the two are talking.

You may characterize it however you want.

But potentially the most important meeting on the crisis, several regional experts said, took place on Monday in the North Korean capital, Pyongyang. There, a special Russian envoy, Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Losyukov, presented a three-part resolution plan to the North's leader, Kim Jong Il.

The Russian diplomacy followed an Australian delegation's effort to press North Korea on the need to abandon its nuclear weapons program. The Australian foreign minister, Alexander Downer, told Australia's Nine Network after the delegation's visit: ''I'm a little more confident than I was a few days ago because of the messages the delegation has brought back with them. They had pretty constructive talks.''

Once again, everybody but the US is stepping up to the plate.

Poppycock. It's not that we haven't been stepping up to the plate, but that others have been failing to do so enough to convince the North to negotiate. Now they're behaving a little better, and you better believe that sanctions have everything to do with that. We, Australia, Russia, China, South Korea, everyone would have no bargaining power with the North without them. And of course we have been attempting diplomacy through talks as well, but they don't want to listen to us alone, apparently, or rather to just us, China and South Korea. Globally unified sanctions and a united stance where negotiations are concerned are making a difference. Russia is evidently playing a positive, contributing role in this, and that is good.

I guess that you’re conveniently forgetting that Trump tweeted to Rex Tillerson that diplomacy with North Korea is done in vain.

    More like thanks China.

All of their nuclear technology is, one way or another, supplied to them by China. Since they share a border, it's not really possible for the US to stop them from trading whatever they want and it never was.

The idea that we could somehow stop them was ridiculous from day 1.

This article is from January 22, 2003 ....

Did you bother to look? Or did your boss basically just throw this article around for all of you guys to use.

Meanwhile, the leader of South Korea himself is saying that the US and Trump gets some of the credit for bringing people together. Your story is a ridiculous fable that is obviously meant as just another Russian anti US propaganda piece. But usually you guys are better at hiding it, but posting a 15 year old article as evidence? Damn, gettin sloppy over there

Remember when we were just a mushroom cloud away from destruction by Hussein.
Odd to me that over and over again US politicians can dupe the American public.

North Korea crisis: Russia called in to referee USA nuclear missiles talks

Shows just how long Russia has had diplomatic relations with North Korea, and how effective they are at it.

Proof they have had diplomatic relations? Uh, yeah, a lot of people have. But posting an article from so long ago is incredibly disingenuous, why should anything else you say not be taken as propoganda?

Your second article is a little better but doesn't say anything at all other than, "Russian diplomats went to North Korea"

Meanwhile, we have the South Korean leader on video/tape/recording saying that Trump deserves credit for the talks between North and South Korea.

Why in the world should we believe your article that has zero statements vs the leader of the actual nation of South korea?

Of course he said that. The US is very important to South Korea. But Moon knows that the TIC isn’t the answer.

    Moon to Putin

Mr President, we are of a similar age and have many things in common. There are many similarities in life. And this makes me feel that we are very close.

I would like to point out that here are many common elements and points of contact between your policy for the development of the [Russian] Far East and my policy, the New Northern Policy. I would say that you and I share a dream. I believe that South Korea is the best partner for Russia in the development of the Far East. If we promote our cooperation, we will bring prosperity not only to the Far East but to the region as a whole.

Ahhh ok I get, you are talking about a different conversation.

Well, as per this thread, South Korean leaders have praised Trump for his actions on bringing the discussion to the table, fact.

Yes, it’s not questionable and I told you why. But not a different conversation. South Korea is placating the TIC and leaning heavily on Russia regarding the north.

The South Korean's president would be a credible source. President Trump seems to be (despite a gruff exterior) a diffuser of potentially explosive situations through out the world. This might be to the chagrin of those who dislike him personally.
