And some comments under the video.

Especially liked this comment "Russia is building innovative Arctic icebreakers, while the US is building a 30-foot tall wall, and the Mexicans are building 36-foot ladders..."

What do you think about it?

Why waste money on icebreakers. According to lefties, all the arctic ice will be gone any day now. One NASA climate "scientist" actually predicted NYC under water in 2017.

Seems prudent as their warm water ports are difficult to defend.

I think Russia’s interests aren’t dictated by American liberals or NASA scientists.

Ah, great minds think alike. That was my first thought too, so glad you posted it. Why waste money on a new ice breaker? The ice will be gone within a couple of years...and south of the mason dixon line will be desert, as Ca. self destructs as the earth heats up and Ca. gets the big one. SO, the end is nigh. Doomsday. The end of humanity. And just because we had to burn fossil fuels for energy so that great civilizations could be created along with what that brought, an exponential advance in science and technology like the world has never seen in the history of humanity.

I think the US has two icebreakers. Russians are leading the way in trying to take over Arctic territory.

I'm not entirely clear on what the Russians are banking on. Naval control of the arctic? Why? Shipping lanes still have to extend through the warmer waters surrounding population centers, controlled by the US Navy.

The Russians have already taken the Arctic.

The current winter in the US and the EU shows well what people expect in the future. For example, I thought that Americans would heat their homes with the capitalization of Aple and the capitalization of Facebook, but no - the Americans decided to buy gas from the Russian "Gazprom." And what about the growth of GDP due to iPhones and dog hairdressers? However, the iPhone is also made in China. In the event of a global war, the American economy will turn into the economy of the Neanderthals. You do not produce anything. Everything is done by China. Shale gas turned out to be a shale swindle. All the power of the United States is Hollywood.

And instead of jointly fighting against terrorism, natural disasters, tolerant idiots and other madmen - the US government mocks its own citizens, finances terrorists and wants to start a nuclear war.
Your even a black TV presenter has ambitions to become president. But the most surprising is that there are some Americans willing to vote for it. This indicates the degradation of the intellect of society. Does she have any knowledge of the international economy? Does she have knowledge in international politics? Does she know the laws of society? ... And so on. She is a banal clown on TV. But the Americans are ready to vote for the clown. For me, it's amazing.

This is a tradition. For example, when Antarctica was first discovered, by the way, by Russian seafarers - Thaddeus Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev. On January 28, 1820, the Russian sloops "Vostok" and "Mirny" reached the shores of Antarctica. They also observed this tradition. I mean, there are "baby pigs".

The main advantage is a significant reduction of the sea route for supplies from Europe to the states of Asia and the Pacific region, as well as in the opposite direction. Safer, as there are no pirates and other military conflicts.

Virtually the entire northern border of Russia is within the Arctic circle whereas the USA only has Alaska.

Which is a waste. The northern route is the shortest and cheapest way between American and Eurasian continents... If only we had good relationship the world trade could benefit having nature and Russian icebrakers to do the job which is done now by a great deal of American navy...

This is something we can do today. If the world relationship becomes different of course. For now Russia starts to mine oil and gas in the northern ocean. Fossil fuel cannot be rejected in the nearest future. And for that we need ice breakers.

Actually the ice breaker was built and the Arctic was becoming dominated by the Soviets as Obama worried about things like DACA and squandered tax dollars on things like solyndra.

I understand why arctic shipping might be useful, I don't understand why Russian trailblazing is supposed to afford them any significant advantage.

Let's imagine that you have an oil offshore platform hundreds kilometers away from the land. Without an icebreaker you depend on the weather. With an ice-breaker you can make a path to the platform 24\7 365 days a year. Helicopters are not available in any weather and they are not able to carry that much.
As for transport convoys ice-breakers are perfect to make a path for all kinds of ships. That is also an advantage.
