The Republicans and Democrats have demonstrated that they can't accomplish what this country needs to successfully move forward in the interests of its citizens and those who seek to immigrate here. It's disgusting.

I was a Republican until that lying mess Trump ran for President. He's done an absolutely atrocious job, just look at his miserable approval ratings and his lies.

I've joined the Libertarian Party. Libertarians believe in returning to the roots of this republic, self sufficiency and minimal interference from our dysfunctional government. Do I agree with all of their positions? No. But they are much better than the Republicans and Democrats.

The United States needs to end the same tired two party political system, minimize government interference and return to respecting individual decisions and rights.

    Cheers,

Our system is a two-party system, its how it was designed.

You would have to rewrite the constitution to change that.

And remember that at one time, the republicans were a third party........If the libertarians were to replace one of the two major parties they would act the exact same way, its not the parties, its the system in which they have to operate.

Where within the Constitution does it state that the United States can only have two political parties?

    Cheers,

The Trump era has made alot of people politically irrelevant and has caused some of them to lash out on social media.

Not true. Our Founding Fathers had no real intent in creating a two party system, it occurred as a byproduct of our English roots.

It doesn't, but if you look at how our government is set up, per the Constitution, its designed to really only support two parties, the top two main points of view.......its the winner-take-all system.

We have plenty of other parties but they can never get enough votes to win anything because of this system.

You really need a parliamentary system to support more than two parties.

The problem with third parties is that they are forced to take on the same views as the top two parties, if they try to separate from them then they won't appeal to enough voters, and there's no point is being just like them. Look at the platform of the Green Party, its almost identical to the democrats. What you have to do is what the Tea Party did, and try and take over one of the major established parties and change it from within.

Or change the rules of how our elections are done, which would require a re-write of the Constitution.

It was the only thing that could have happened with the design they came up with.

They knew that full well, Madison even talked about it with his writings on factions, he predicted it would happen.

I feel you dude, but I'm afraid that abandoning the two party system isn't a liable option right now, you are just making the Democratic Party stronger. The Libertarian Party may want to return to the roots, but you don't know that because they have never been in power, so they can talk a good talk but they have never had to back up their words with policy, also, any party that puts Gary Johnson up for President has something wrong with it. Not sure why you are abandoning the GOP by the way, are they perfect? No, but that tax cut is going to help a lot of people.

    Libertarians support complete open borders.

Maybe that's what he likes about them.

Really? When have Libertarians supported totally unrestricted open borders? Libertarians support immigration as long as the immigrants come here peacefully with a responsible attitude towards successsfully assimilating into American society.

Um the guy who ran for president under the libertarian party, Gary Johnson.

    Here is his quote:

My vision of the border with Mexico is that a truck from the United States going into Mexico and a truck coming from Mexico into the United States will pass each other at the border going 60 miles an hour. Yes, we should have open borders.

In its present form, I completely agree. It's a self serving, dysfunctional cesspool.

Read the Libertarian platform policy regarding immigration instead of using selective quotes. By the way, I see nothing wrong with Johnson's quote. Why do you?

I didn't say it was wrong, you asked me when they supported it and I gave you their presidential candidates view on it.

You denied it happened so I proved you wrong.

And of course I selected that quote because he said it. Are you denying he believes that?

You've proven nothing except that you're biased against an alternative to an ineffective two party system..

Why do you think a third party would be any different if it were as powerful as the other two?

Believes what? Your quote by Johnson doesn't describe any sort of belief.

It would offer an alternative to the mind numbing inefficiency and partisan ineffectiveness of the Republicans or Democrats.

Not true and George Washington was not a repub or demo.

We can have a lot more parties but the entrenched interests don't want us to.

Tell us what this third party would look like that wouldn't simply be another version of democrats or republicans yet still appeal to enough voters to win an election.

    Go ahead.

So just because they are a third party they would automatically be effective?

    Hahaha

Republicans were a third party at one point you know.

I'll give you 5 bucks if you know what major party they replaced.
