This warmed my heart. I played football in high school but we never prayed before, during nor after games. But this is CA and not North Carolina. So what do we have here. One person complained and it killed prayer over the school loudspeaker system. The principle approved the players solution. Good for these great young men.
I have a question... If noone is to pray outdoors for the Good and Safety of the State/Nation/Family/Federation/Business or whatever it may be, where should any communal prayer be done for the Good and Safety of the State/Nation/Family/Federation/Business, or whatever, be done?
This thread was dead so thanks for puffing some air into the topic. I rank prayer with freedom of speech and right of assembly. I see no reason to prevent students from seeking solace by praying. Kids can get injured and perhaps prayer cuts down on injuries.
I wonder if everyone's responses would be the same if it was the Muslim call to prayer being played of the loud speakers?
It must be asked, what on earth is a public school doing allowing prayers to be broadcast publicly via loudspeaker? That suggests religious preference, which is illegal in public education. Meantime, will they wear those t-shirts in support of the Islamic call to prayer being broadcast pre-game?
Doesn’t God have more important things to do than hang out at a football game? (Tongue in cheek) If you want prayer in school go to a religious school.
If someone objects for some odd reason to prayers over a P.A. system, Muslims never get told not to call to prayers using perhaps a private address system addressing the faithful, may be that is different, they pray without the system.
When I was in grades K-6 there was an option to be allowed to cut out and attend "Religious Instruction" of choice. I hated Public School, I wanted to attend a Private School, and my parents thought Public School was a better option, they were wrong. And I suffered for it.
Good for whomever got that PA prayer garbage stopped. They shouldn't be forced to listen to crap religious indoctrination. Kudos to them. If the kids want to pray in their own. Good for them. Go for it. But stop expecting the schools to endorse religious garbage. Simple as that. And I know all you people who are in support of these students would go into fits of rage if someone offered a muslim call to prayer. So just admit you are a hypocrite, and would gladly suppress other religions in favor of your own.
If players choose to pray on their own, so be it, but a government institution has no business pushing religion as part of their official events. And lets get one thing straigt. The people who are upset over this are upset that CHRISTIAN prayers are not allowed as part of official school functions. If a Muslim prayer was even praying on their own, many of these same people would be up in arms and want that player expelled. They only care about Christians being allowed to have exemptions to the separation of church and state, not religious rights in general.
