It never fails. Some nut got their hands on a semi automatic rifle, goes off on a mass killing spree and the left starts jumping up and down about gun control. This argument is based totally on emotion and is irrational. This becomes clear when looking at the facts about guns and homicides.

Lately the yammering has been about banning assault weapons like the AR15. This would accomplish nothing.

First, most homicides are committed with handguns.

Second, why is it that the left whines about gun control after a mass shooting when mass shootings only account for a small number of gun related homicides?
    _98137800_gun_people_killed_v2_640-nc.png

If this is the case then why ban AR15's? Are people not bothered by the majority of hand gun related deaths?

Perhaps it is that handgun deaths are so common that they do not receive the attention that mass killings do. That means the drama queens on the left can't steal the attention away like they do with mass shootings.

Control advocates like to call gun owners names and imply we are irrational

But the arguments for keeping the 2nd Amendment are.as reasonable as the day it was included in the Bill of Rights 200+ years ago

The gun grabbers are going to let the high school kiddies dictate gun laws it appears. Emotion driven and no logic . Just like B.Rock and Hillary .

They don't need logic, and facts don't matter. All they need is enough people to agree. They're banking on a powerful logical fallacy, "appeal to emotion", to get them there.

I think they have underestimated the intelligence of their constituency.... again.

The only thing that is irrational and emotional is the pro-gun people's obession with guns. That's what is emotional and irrational.

Doesn’t make sense to take guns away from everyone But is common sense to enhance checks or perhaps raise the legal age to 21,,obviously this will never stop a murderer but is all about minimising risk! Nothing can fully solve this epedemic. Politics certainly wouldn’t only rationally thought out plans to confront this madness. Lefty this lefty that is all emotional BS, or NRA Horrible, NRA bad another BS,,IF you come at this from the Right or left no one will ever win the argument!!!

These kids would still be alive today had the FBI done their job. Thats a simple fact. Both lives and rights to own firearms would be protected had they done their job. Why would you focus on guns when the gorilla in the room is obviously the FBIs failure to consistently do its one purpose it was designed for?

They would be alive if adequate background checking had been done. This kid had been known, by authorities, as a mental case for years.

Im ok raising the age provided the draft age is also increased. If your not old enough to drink or own a firearm, you arent old enough to fight in combat.

Wrong, adequate bkg checks were performed. This guy was on everyones radar. The FBI classified him as a credible threat to a potential imminent school shooting. They failed to notify florida agents. These are facts not conjecture. Your solution to failed bkg checks is more of the same. This is like your alternator not working so you put another broken alternator next to it and hope it fixes the problem when it wont. What fixes these problems is people fearing they will lose their jobs and careers if they handle these cases like they did with this.

Looks that way. Another argument from emotion that does nothing to solve real problems.

When will you shift goal posts? You posit that the FBI doing it's job would have stopped this event? Well so would banning the sale of the firearms he used, right? Oh that wouldn't work because he would have gotten them off the black market or through a strawman purchase or used a different weapon? Do you see the shifting goal post? Do you pretend that response doesn't get used? And so what if the kid did perk the radar of the FBI to the point where they wanted to put him under observation or arrest? The kid could have gone on the run, filed a habeas corpus petition to challenge his detention, etc.

The problem with your argument is the same problem with every "x law would not stop y event." Let us say that the FBI now works perfectly - to the tune of some paranormal **** where they can predict future crimes - does that change also stop the Parkland shooting? No. Those 17 kids are still dead because time travel isn't a thing.

your argument is only gun grabbing would work. You are wrong. The fbi doing their job would have. Moving goalposts? Please read the thread title.

To a gun zealot, ANY talk of gun restriction is irrational. Given the source of that, irrationality trying to define rationality is comedic.

Not all gun control falls under a single umbrella. Gang violence is a different beast altogether that requires different solutions. Nobody expects gun control to have any impact on gang violence. Gun control is meant to reduce incidents of domestic terrorism, like what we had in Florida last week. Just because gun control would not reduce gang violence is no reason not to take measures that will reduce domestic terrorism.

When facts are used to back up one's position then it is rational....Boom!

Thanks for such a fine example of the irrational argument made for a stupid idea like gun control.

LaPierre pretty much stated in March 2000 --- that some don't want the argument won

Flashback: Wayne LaPierre Pegged the Left’s Tactics 18 Years Ago
    Feb 19, 2018

RUSH: We found Wayne LaPierre. It was year 2000. Cookie went back… We keep everything. It’s just a search challenge that we have. But we’ve even got that down pat. So Cookie has finally found… It was This Week with Sam and Cokie. Brinkley had retired or something, so it was This Week with Sam Donaldson and Cokie Roberts of ABC News. Wayne LaPierre, the executive vice president of the NRA, was on and was being asked about ads and the NRA was running against Clinton’s depiction of the NRA as unwilling to help solve the problem of gun violence.

That, by the way, is common. The NRA never wants to help. The NRA’s not interested in stopping violence. The NRA, they will not lift a finger to stop this incessant killing. For as long as I’ve been alive, that is the Democrat talking point about the NRA. So LaPierre is on, he’s being asked about this by Cokie Roberts, and here’s what he said.

LAPIERRE: I’ve come to believe he needs a certain level of violence in this country. He’s willing to accept a certain level of killing to further his political agenda. And the vice president too. I mean, how much can you explain this dishonesty we get out of the administration?

RUSH: That’s 2000. That was in March of 2000, the end of the Clinton era, and that is one heck of a charge. But in reality, it’s no different than the charge that the Democrats level against the NRA all the time. And like the media tried to peddle a story, the NRA trained this Cruz kid as a marksman at the school when the NRA wasn’t even there when this happened.

That is precisely what Fast & Furious was about. Under the cover of a Bush program that attempted to track guns that were allowed to walk, Obama & Holder allowed guns to walk without any attempt to track them in order to create dead bodies.

To an anti-gunner, ANY talk of blaming the changes in our society and culture for this disease is off limits. Blaming an inanimate object feels so good and doesn't threaten their lifestyle.

Your OPINIONS are not FACTS. Taking raw data and interpreting it the way you want to, is not a factual argument.

What's an anti-gunner? I not only own and fire guns frequently, but I do something most gun owners don't do; I hunt.

    Try again.

I am not arguing that gun grabbing is the only thing that works. Confiscating firearms of those who exhibit red flags or further limiting the sale of certain firearms to certain people ARE steps that would help prevent a future event, but NOTHING will stop the Parkland shooting because - and try to follow this complex argument - it. already. happened.

Something else that would help is improvements to law enforcement and improvements to the gun background check system.
