In 2016, there were 7,390 homicides by gun. This figure excludes suicides.

7,105 were by handgun and only 285 were by long gun (rifle/shotgun).

That means long guns were used in only 3.8% of the homicides and handguns were used in 96.2% of the homicides.

And less than one percent of the gun homicides were by AR/AK rifles.

Why is the anti-gun alt-left only focusing on a firearm that is responsible for less than one percent of the homicides????

You can expect an angry gang of teenagers in your state capitol demanding that politicians stop coddling the cutlery industry.

Any statistics on when a lone person with a knife killed 17 people in a matter of minutes?

and your numbers are not even correct.. homicide statistics also include justifiable homicide. So if a crazy person breaks down your door swinging around a hatchet trying to murder your whole family and you shoot and kill him.. his death goes into the homicide statistics.. completely justified and youre a hero, no charges etc.. But still ends up in the homicide stat

So the total "bad" homicides are even less then you posted..

That's irrelevant to the people who died by knife.

Yes, that is the point. Can you imagine if all of the knife wielding perpetrators had automatic weapons at their disposal at the time they decided to attack. Holy ****!

I would say with the recent obesity epidemic that spoons and forks kill even more.

what difference does it make if 200 individuals killed 200 people and 1 killed 17. 200 is more than 17.

Why is the loss of life more important when it's several people losing their life at the hands of One Versus several people losing their life at the hand of several people? Aren't they all just people or are 17 people killed by one person more valuable?

This isn't about people who don't give a s*** about killing people it's about guns.

the point of what? 17 people are more important to because they were killed by one person then all the people that were killed individually?

Will the only difference there is that the one person that killed 17 people all at once did it all at once.

it's illegal to own an automatic weapon.

They are fooling no one. They don't want a solution, they want the issue so they can posture, hector and shout. The next school shooter already has his weapons and all the rules in the world will not change that.

We know how to secure venues, look around the next time you go to a sporting event, get on a plane, enter a government building or even a shopping mall.

We need armed security in our schools.

Use off-duty police officers, they can also engage in community outreach while they are there.
    Use military recruiters.
Or, train the teachers, principle and coaches.

We should also retrofit school classroom designs with exit doors on opposing walls so that no single shooter can cover both entrances, and all doors should be steel, in steel frames, with deadbolts that can be thrown if an active shooter alarm is sounded, and we need an active shooter alarm that is easily differentiated from the fire alarm.

Quite frankly, we need to let the Insurance Loss Control folks conduct a post incident survey and then mandate the needed solutions as a condition of remaining insured.

They will do it quickly and efficiently, we will rapidly have real world safeguards in place.

    Fully-Automatic weapons are not illegal.

    However, they are highly regulated.

More people were killed by knifes alone than long guns and more people were killed by hands, feet and blunt objects than long guns. Just the facts.

More people are also beaten to death with hands and feet than are killed by long guns.

A thug can get any firearm easily - anywhere.

"Weapons bought and sold in London...

'Easier to pick up than a bag of chips.' Buying a gun is much like any
other fashion purchase; the most desirable models are those used by film
and television heroes. The most popular weapons currently bought and
sold on the streets of London include...

    "Mach 10 sub-machine gun

Originally developed for close-quarter combat during the Vietnam war,
this fearsome weapon is capable of firing 1,200 rounds per minute."

In 2013, there were 285 people killed by ALL rifles, of which an AR15 is a subset of.

    https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u....able_8_murder_victims_by_weapon_2009-2013.xls

    The same year (2013)

308 people were killed by shotguns
1,490 people killed by sharp instruments
428 people were killed by blunt instruments
687 people were killed by fists/feet (i.e. beaten to death)

If every rifle used in 2013 to kill someone was an AR15, that means twice as many people were beaten to death and about five times as many people were stabbed to death than died to an "assault weapon".

I doubt people that own fully automatics and have to take on all of the responsibilities of doing that would just leave them laying around.

Actually it's not illegal to own an automatic weapon in most states, if it's pre '86.

Your discrepancy lies in your not understanding what a long gun or rifle is.

Now what you need to do is look up how many were killed by rifles(long guns) vs knives.
