Another daft dollar sucking Pentagon wet dream project or something to be genuinely concerned about?

Or are you one of those that really want a gun-toting Arnie to rule the world?

The US Army plans to have autonomous "self aware systems" fully integrated into the force between 2031-40 ,which will make a change because they don't have that many "self aware" human soldiers to date imo.

But the Pentagon plan far more than that. They want "super soldiers" that have a machine-brain interface and which can "communicate by thought alone". DARPA who oversees the super soldier project sees the future and thinks its good. For example by placing a chip in the brain that can "help" control your thoughts".

    Good luck with that America.

So Bassett, whoever he is, has an opinion and his opinion is the basis for all this fluff.

War is beyond humanitarian concerns. The only reason why we have chemical and nuclear weapons treaties is because we haven't been in total war since WWI. If the enemy builds robotic armies, so will everyone else.

The more complex is the weapon the more vulnerable it is. I doubt that armies actually need robots in such quantities. It looks great for presentations and in newspapers. Before the WWI and WWII people expected the war of the engines and were right to some extent, but it stayed after the people anyway.

If these things eat Internet trolls I understand why they were designed in the US... But they will starve to death in Russia.

Robots are going to replace the white collar professionals first. I know that all of you out there threatened by this possibility think that you do something irreplaceable, something that requires a unique human spark. You don't. You process information. Processing information with machines is cheaper and easier (computers already do it!) than moving parts that suffer wear and tear. Neural networks will beat you within 10 years and be cheaper than you in 20.

I predict that stimulants are going to become more and more popular as the pressure to process information more and more quickly mounts. You won't be outright required to pop adderall to get a job, but you won't be able to compete if you don't. We're all psychotic zombies in 30 years.

Fantastic. So we can put both robot armies on an island, stand back and whoever has the most robots standing at the end is the winner. And not one human life will be lost. Sounds like a great idea.

Schwarzenegger's Terminator series already said everything I'd care to say on this subject.

Great point, and this is what many people fail to realize. Engines were a supplemental force in WWI and of course even more so in WW2 but at the end of the day it was the human element that mattered most. I see robots playing a supplemental role in future wars.

You know what it is. It's where vast sums of other people's money can be spent on autonomous weapon systems to wage endless war for purposes of control and to the profit/benefit of the few.

"The war is not meant to be won, it is meant to be continuous. Hierarchical society is only possible on the basis of poverty and ignorance. This new version is the past and no different past can ever have existed. In principle the war effort is always planned to keep society on the brink of starvation. The war is waged by the ruling group against its own subjects and its object is not the victory over either Eurasia or East Asia, but to keep the very structure of society intact." (George Orwell)

Automated warfare is the future of conflict and the United States simply wishes to be dominant.
