I've never known or heard of anyone who likes changing the clocks twice a year. And who likes it when it gets dark before five o'clock in December?
This is a long time in coming and I hope it catches on beyond Florida and California as that will probably be needed for the Feds. to change the law on the subject.
Currently, a state is only allowed to exempt itself from having to go on Daylight Savings Time as Arizona and Hawaii currently do. But there are no provisions in the federal law to allow a state to stay on Daylight Savings Time all year round.

I'm all for it! I don't care for the shortened winter days, no thanks.

Being a Florida resident, I'm all for a year around standard time. No screwing up the equilibrium, just let nature do it's thing. It's just like the effing Global warming thing, we are not changing the amount of daylight, we're just fooling ourselves by rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic on an annual basis. It's retarded. Yes, the snowflakes will say but but but the chillins at the bus stop in the dark, well they do that anyway regardless and schools run different times, all crazy times of the day for classes, pickup and delivery. Originally it was done with some excuse for farming labor but that ship has sailed many moons ago.
Back in 2014 this came up in the legislature but the snowflakes somehow let it die on the state operating table. :wall: Arizona has had this in place for years.

I'll take the savings time as with the standard time it gets dark too damn early.

In some places up north, it get's dark at 3:30 pm.

You could move to the Southern Hemisphere for 6 months of the year ...

It’s all or nothing. FL can’t be an hour off from everyone else on the coast. . It ****s up commerce and media. It has to be everyone in the time zone. Our Atlanta offices will be on a different time than in S FL. It’s moronic.

I wish :) I live in Florida. I joke (half seriously) that I will retire as close to the equator as possible (I don't like the cold, can you tell?) That's quite a few years off still though....

The northern hemisphere tilts away from the sun and we get 12 hours or less of daylight during winter. During the summer, when the northern hemisphere is tilted towards the sun, we get a minimum of 12 hours of daylight, but for example, Texas will get 12.5 in summer while Alaska can hit 22 hours.

Basically, the only way to change your predicament is to move between the northern and southern hemispheres every year.

    Oh my. What a burden.

I guess you are in favor of staying on Standard Time all year round.

The Repubs in the FL legislature had to do something to distract attention from the laughable gun law they passed. "Hey, I know, let's talk about the Sun".

Love the way you invent things--this is how fake news starts. FL has been discussing the DST thing for months. The FL House vote on it was on February 14, before the Parkland shootings.

On or very near the equator, you get 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night year round.

Trivia... If you are right on the equator or just a few short yards from it, there is a simple test you can do to show that you are on the equator.

Does anybody know what that test is?

I guess I was too vague. I don't care which "standard" they use, I just want it to be consistent, no time change twice a year.

The test, to see how fast the ice in my cocktail melts? Kidding.... I don't know. I'm going to guess it has something to do with your shadow?

    Cool.
I thought it might have something to do with light reflecting straight up from the surface of water at noon.

I'm glad we don't live at the equator. I enjoy watching the left circle the bowl. :p

I wouldn't be for it unless it was for the longer days. I hate short days.

You're going to have to move to the equator. The days will get shorter every winter. However, I'd rather get up in the dark but have some substantial daylight after 5 pm. Jackassjerking of the clock twice a year only exaggerates how early it gets dark in the winters. I'd prefer DST 365 days a year.
