Well, that would wipe out the majority of the Trump voting base, so that is not acceptable.

I assume you also think that if that happens, the 18-24 year olds would not be obligated to follow any rules/laws/legislation and would not have to pay taxes?

So, the government can force you to die for your country in war at 18 (through a draft) but you cannot vote? PASS.

And by putting your vote on your tax return, that means the government can know how everyone voted? PASS!!!

Certainly that age group would have to follow the rules of the land, however your idea that they would be exempt from taxes I think might be a good idea.

In the wake of the shooting in the state of Florida, the argument has been that those who are under the age of twenty one are simply not emotionally mature enough to own rifles or shotguns, and that the age for the purchase of any firearm should be raised to twenty one for all types.

If someone under the age of twenty one is not emotionally mature or stable enough to own a firearm, then they are not emotionally mature and stable enough to vote either. It is one or the other, it cannot be both.

I'm going with 26 years of age.

That would put the final nail in the Democratic party coffin.

That would be rational compared to some of the promises voters heard from the candidates in the last election. And a lot less expensive as well. My guess is if we capped the voting age at four we might actually elect better presidents.

And lets add that you get one vote for each dollar of income tax paid. And lose one vote for each dollar of social security and medicare recieved..

All of the millenials are of voting age. We are talking about current kids, who are Gen Z (as a placeholder before we name them more accurately). I have two sons that are Gen Z. They, and their friends, are different from Millenials.

Well, even though Gen Z might well be better voters than Millennials would have been at that age, I don't think it's worth rolling those dice just to gain the short term advantage of diluting the Millennial vote

We only have about 6 more years of millenials being in the under 25 set. Gen Z is supposed to be the most conservative generation in a while.

Yes, I have great hope for Gen Z. But I still think they need to grow up before voting. Even if they ARE capable of being responsible about it, the next generation probably won't be. Or the one after that...

I'm fine with 18 year old voting. Doesn't need to be moved down to 16 or up to 21.

It's funny, some month ago a member of this forum suggested that only people being able to pay tax should be able to vote. I didn't agree until recently, now I tend to agree with that kind of way of thinking, even if I'm crippled and don't pay taxes.

A 16 YO don't work and is still extremly immature.

The right to vote is nice, but society is not only about freedom and rights, it's too about duty. If you're responsible, you can receive more rights. What responsibilities a 16 YO assume ?

It's the same we do with kids, the more a kid is responsible, the more freedom the parent give to him.

Bull. They opposed the war because they could be drafted, not because they were smart. Most of them were not students, they were drugged out hippies.

Anyone here seriously think 3/4 of the states would vote to do this?

    Didn't think so.

Actually, from my readings a state could lower the voting age to 16 without a Constitutional amendment. All the Constitutional amendment does is make it so that all 18 year olds had the right to vote. For example, in 1943 (well before the 26th amendment was passed), Georgia lowered the voting age to 18 from 21. I think they could do the same now.

    Amendment XXVI
    Section 1.

The right of citizens of the United States, who are 18 years of age or older, to vote, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state on account of age.

    Section 2.
The Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Kings don't get elected and some of them decide they are Gods. Of course that sometimes happens in the 8 year span we currently enjoy like it did with Obama.
