There is no such person as a true libertarian.

I believe in the Rule of Law, the perp's intent was to hate and to make afraid.

He deserves more than house arrest.

Oh, so now he deserves more than house arrest, eh?
    Yeah, okay.

I believe in the rule of law except when the law is asinine and overly restrictive and if the perp's intent was to hate
a Nazi dictator, by mocking him, who is he making afraid?
    Nazi pug owners?

    :LOL...sort your story out, dude.

Sure. This law is neither asinine nor overly restrictive. The Parliament apparently paid little heed to your comments, and that is most appropriate, I believe.

No use for nazis, fascists, or alt right.

Anti free speech totalitarians are indeed more dangerous than some You Tube goofball!

And they are ultimately perhaps as dangerous as Nazis themselves because to control speech and thought is to control a society
    itself.

Are you happy with him using the command "gas the Jews" in order to get the pug to give a Nazi salute and then advertising this video to the general public and in particular to a section of the populace that belong to a racist group (EDL)?

Me: I have no particular opinion of freedom of speech

I think it was 'Gas the Jews' which was the main offence

I feel the same way about BLM or antifa, but I support their right to free speech.
    You've exposed yourself very badly.

I don't know how you advertise a You Tube video to a particular group and had I made the video I would never have used the phrase "gas the Jews".

But nevertheless using that argument you could also censor and shut down a movie like Mel Brook's History of the World where monks dance and sing about the Spanish Inquisition getting rid of all the Jews.

The danger to society presented by this video (which I admit I have not seen) is minuscule compared to the danger of letting offended parties decide for all of society what is permissible to see and say. There is simply no comparison.

I think post #40 covers all of what I would have to say here.

Is free speech worth defending or not? And if is, is speech that offends no one at all truly free?

Anyone can stand up for public opinion that bothers no one.
The true test comes when someone disagrees with what you say and think.
And then you might wish you had true free speech laws that truly defended freedom, over laws that just defended someone's right not to be offended.

You do know the UK is a different country, right?

I know you are still struggling with the concept that the earth is round, so I thought I had better ask.

Yeah in America we are proud to insult people since that is such a positive value.

This generation of Americans knows a lot about rights.Virtually nothing about responsibility.

The pug video was funny, cute and harmless. The UK government is way out of line, he might be sentenced to a year in prison. This is what happens when you don't have freedom of speech instituted in the foundational principles of a nation, you open the door for authoritarians on the left to petition the state to use its' full power against you. Even in the US, activists are trying their darnedest to shut down speech they consider to be a threat to their ideology.

Channe, this is the UK we are talking about. If you don't want stricter hate speech laws here, lobby your lege.

Nope. Just watched it and it's crap and not at all funny. Just shows an idiot making a crappy video - who would choose to waste time watching it. Say anything to a dog and they will react in the same way. He was just using phrases that he fully supports. There won't be a prison sentence so don't lose any sleep worrying about it.

"The danger to society presented by this video (which I admit I have not seen) is minuscule compared to the danger of letting offended parties decide for all of society what is permissible to see and say" does not reflect that the Parliament, the elected will of the People (not offended parties) make the decision.
