The US as been involved in many wars since 1945. Can you think of one that advanced the interests of the US in any material way?

Ok, let him. Putin is not my President so I don't care what he likes or doesn't like. So again why should we do it? What is worth the lives of our soldiers there?

Nope, just a bunch of rich people getting richer and poor people dying. WWII we were attacked, that I get. Since then we have been doing nothing helpful to the USA.

Regime change has worked so well for the USG in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Egypt - how could it go wrong in Syria? ;-)

Why on earth would any rational human being believe anything that come out of the "intelligence community"?

    Intelligence 101: Spies Tell Lies.

“Most embarrassing of all was what MSNBC did. You just have to watch this report from its “intelligence and national security correspondent” Ken Dilanian to believe it. Like CBS, Dilanian also claimed that he independently “confirmed” the false CNN report from “two sources with direct knowledge of this.” Dilanian, whose career in the U.S. media continues to flourish the more he is exposed as someone who faithfully parrots what the CIA tells him to say (since that is one of the most coveted and valued attributes in US journalism), spent three minutes mixing evidence-free CIA claims as fact with totally false assertions about what his multiple “sources with direct knowledge” told him about all this. Please watch this – again, not just the content but the tenor and tone of how they “report” – as it is Baghdad-Bob-level embarrassing:”

No kidding.. and what is that regime going to be replaced with ? The rebel opposition is Al Qaeda and ISIS. In the regions of Syria they took over - which was most of Syria - they were chopping off heads and killing Christians.

It is not like Iraq where we had an army there so .. who the frick is going to take over ? Will be the same thing as Libya which has turned into a nightmare 10 times worse than when Gaddafi was in charge. The nation is now a Jihadist wonderland.

Never mind not having an army there ... do we seriously expect Russia to just step aside and allow us (were it even possible as this would require putting an army in Syria) to install someone of our choosing ?

The narrative coming out of the mouths of military pundits is preposterous nonsense - and they know it !

How many bases and ships do the Russians have near Syria? Should we bomb them all?
Or just enough to teach them a good lesson?

Well, CA wants to secede from the Union.
Perhaps we could turn Syria over to Jerry Brown.
After we nuke all the major cities - of course.

With all the money we throw into our propaganda machines you would think they could craft a marginally convincing product.

    Inconvenient contradictions:

    1. Syrian rebels were arrested with sarin.

"Russia has called on Turkey to share its findings in the case of Syrian rebels who were seized on the Turkish-Syrian border with a 2kg cylinder full of nerve gas sarin." http://www.turkishweekly.net/news/151261/russia-asks-turkey-for-info-on-sarin-terrorists.html

    2. The UN has determined that the rebels, not Assad has used CWs, specifically the nerve agent sarin, against its own people.

"The chemical attack earlier this year was widely blamed on the Syrian regime. It is this attack that the UN now concludes was carried out by Syrian rebels."
    http://guardianlv.com/2013/08/syrian-chemical-weapons-attack-carried-out-by-rebels-says-un/

Google, the UN and The Guardian are clearly all working for Putin and Assad. ;-)

Well ... for a long time (decades) it was a primary job of our intelligence community to produce and spread propaganda. In 2013 this actually became legal !

The "news" (which does not really exist anymore - its all editorializing) used to be somewhat objective at times. These day's it is hard to get through a 1hr program without catching them in a lie or false narrative or omission of known information that conflicts with the false narrative - saying stuff that they know is false or unverified stuff as if it was defacto truth !

For sure .. I am well aware of this and more. They will go on about "Assad did it" followed by "He is responsible for killing 500,000" people. As if Al Qaeda and ISIS had nothing to do with any deaths ... and of course completely failing to mention that we (along with Saud, Qatar, and others) were the ones that were arming and supporting Al Qaeda/Al Nusra and the other Islamist group of the same ilk that merged to form ISIS.

I still want to see the U.S. sinking some Syrian ships. Doesn't have to be anything big. One of there frigates. Two or three gunboats. One by submarine. One by air attack and one at least by a U.S. warship.

Burning datum's do send a message.

Virtually nobody still believes the MSM. Only 6% still pretend to trust them.

“There is no incongruity in the fact that a new poll conducted by the Media Insight Project, a joint project of the American Press Institute and the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, finds the American media’s popularity way down with that of Washington politicians. With 2,014 adults surveyed, only 6% expressed “a lot of confidence” in the press.”

“The Media Insight poll found that close to 90% of Americans consider it extremely important or very important that journalists get their facts right. As in RatherGate and so many other cases, the media not only gets the facts wrong but also uses them as political weapons.”

Hey, self-important one, I didn't claim he used chemical weapons because he's a dictator. In fact, I never commented on the nature of his government.
Typical Trumpite arrogance. I taught history for decades and don't rely upon tv talking heads for my information. How about you? Is your head stuck in the Angry Middle-Age White Male Rightwing Religious Traditionalist Open Mouth Media Echo Chamber?
So, you're saying Trump was wrong to identify Assad as using chemical weapons?

There is an incentive for Assad to use chemical weapons to intimidate political opponents.

Nonsense. It has to be either Putin, as you suggest, or the Taliban.
If not whoever is in charge of our polce/spy agencies is really stupid.
