I have been listening to the narrative of Anti Gun Advocates for around 44 years, counting from age 10, when I formed my conclusion, I had read a stackpole book called "Gun Control" until age 8 or so, I was pretty much Anti Gun, I thought Guns only harmed People, I had relatives that were hunters, however I had My doubts about them. I did observe one point, the Anti Gun folks never did seem to use personal experience only quoting Anecdotal accounts to bolster their claims. There was an often repeated story of an Uncle that was hunting with an ancient muzzle loading fowling piece of dubious origin, and it exploded when he tried shooting at a game bird of some type, perhaps a Guinea hen. I find it strange how Anti Gun Advocates are so polarized in their beliefs, and Politically motivated, divided along Party lines. Ideology is not a good point on which to base an opinion, facts are more important, so when anyone States, a Gun kept in the home, is more likely to be used to kill or injure it's owner, than to be used against an attacker or home invader, that qualifies as an anecdote and not as a statement of fact.
Is it telling that you formed a conclusion on the use of an inanimate object before the conclusion of brain formation? I would hope that people are continually open to new input, but whatever ... Here's a bit a person experience. I was part of investigative team that dealt with crime scenes for nine years. In that time, we documented a number of violent gun deaths by spouses. A number of suicides. Two accidental shootings by siblings. But not one actual home defense shooting. Now I believe in the right to own guns - I just don't see them as some type of panacea for crime, nor do I think that everyone should own a gun. And I see no reason to make every gun accessory available to the general public (large magazines or bump stocks).
Yes, after much study, listening, and reading about it. I had a few nice cap pistols, hidden away, My Parents did not want me to have toy guns, and asked others not to give me toy guns as gifts. I was not into pointing them at other children. It did not seem right to me at the time.
I formed my opinion by reading, listening intently to others, and finally, one summer in Upstate N.Y. in an area close to Woodstock, at a Summer cottage, as we enjoyed the pool, Sheriff's Deputies drove up, and asked if we had guns, and of course we did not, I was 10, and they showed us pictures of two escaped Convicts, Murderers, desperate Men, and if we saw them, to shoot them on sight, as they would stick at nothing, we never saw those men, but it did convince me.
Yes, us Jews tend to learn at very early ages. You can mock all you wish. Do you know what the biggest complaint about me at that age was ? That I was too serious. That I did not smile or laugh enough.
If it is, then anyone under the age of twenty five should be ignored by the public at large when they advocate for greater firearm-related restrictions, and regarded as having no concept of what they are talking about.
To some extent, but these are not exclusively the cause of the matter. A great deal can be attributed to hatred and intolerance for those who have differing political ideals about how to go about doing things. They are driven by pure and simple spite.
We know now for a fact, Tobacco use, smoking and especially chewing it is a death sentence, and yet, you will see people using Tobacco and paying a great price, money & health, C.D.C. has a report on the statistics, every year almost 500,000 deaths, are attributed to Tobacco products, and second hand smoke, yet Anti Gun Advocates complain about 33,000 deaths of which 2/3 are suicides...........
I saw enough of that as a Police Officer, murdered unarmed victims too, So sad to see young prople dead at an early age.
Have you noticed that the poster only lists select crimes that fit his narrative, not the most common types.
Yes, I have. "Now I believe in the right to own guns - I just don't see them as some type of panacea for crime, nor do I think that everyone should own a gun. And I see no reason to make every gun accessory available to the general public (large magazines or bump stocks)." Fascinating, as Mr. Spock would say, This is a common enough theme among Gun Control Advocates, they will tell you how they own guns, were this and that, then a ham handed segue into a gun control pitch.
Yep, all of them claim to own guns and believe in the 2nd amendment. The problem is that when queried most of them don't know a thing about them.
if thirty round magazines are arbitrarily banned then it will be 20 and then ten round magazines if cops have access to 30 round magazines than so should other private citizens
Don't knock it until you try it Come to a country without so many guns and see what it is like Currently I am sitting in an open cafe in an old arcade and I can assure you no one is armed. No one is even thinking of needing guns or weapons. Went to an outdoor concert at the weekend - over 8,000 people and not a gun in sight (sorry forgot our police are armed). Couple of booze heads arrested but that was nothing. If you had suggested taking a gun there the response would have been WTF???
So, try a country with a lower murder rate And ask yourself why America has such a high rare of murder?
. You seem to want to ignore, I was Constable in the small Nation of San Dorinde, where Guns were as plentiful as Light Sabers, very few, murders and suicides still occured, without using Guns. Why does America have a high murder rate ? Why does America have over 300,000,000 population ? Why does America have an illegal drug epidemic ? Why does America have an Opiate problem with prescribed Opiates ? If I had not served as a Police Officer in places with strict Gun Control and travelled extensively to other Countries with strict Gun Control, I might not know any better, but I do know.
Yes, you mention similar situations often. No more than a charged fire extinguisher or spare tire or tools, many give me odd looks for those things too, until they are needed.
