The frightening part is that there are people who think we could afford it, even if it meant sacrificing the military and increasing everyone's taxes tenfold. And then there are the people who really just think that stuff is free and never give any thought to where the funding comes from. They are the most terrifying.... and they can vote too
There is no universal assistance in the animal world and they do just fine. And the animals getting assistance are in zoos.
Shrug, seems like we have (at least one of) the highest standards of living on the planet. Thank you capitalism!
animals are also running around naked, ******** wherever they happen to be when the urge strikes them, and killing whoever pisses them off, and people usually only do those things together on pcp, so obviously some standards are different
Noted how even the Finland Unions were saying UI was useless and would fail in this thread about the city in California proposing one and experimenting with one. http://www.politicalforum.com/index...l-basic-income.525476/page-22#post-1068711462 Universal basic income would fail to cut poverty, says OECD A universal basic income paid at a flat rate to all citizens would fail to reduce poverty levels in advanced economies and require substantially higher taxes to fund its simplicity, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development has concluded in a detailed study of the idea. Proponents of basic incomes argue that they would provide security for everyone in society, reduce inequality and provide insurance against robots replacing humans in the labour market. These claims receive short shrift in the detailed modelling exercise undertaken by the OECD, the Paris-based international organisation that specialises in cross-national comparisons of policy ideas. Its modelling shows the simplicity of basic income schemes would come at the cost of a need for large increases in taxation, less effective targeting of support on the poorest and large numbers of gainers and losers. https://www.ft.com/content/82334db2-414d-11e7-9d56-25f963e998b2 Universal basic income 'useless', says Finland's biggest union Finland’s basic income experiment is unworkable, uneconomical and ultimately useless. Plus, it will only encourage some people to work less. That’s not the view of a hard core Thatcherite, but of the country’s biggest trade union. The labour group says the results of the two-year pilot program will fail to sway its opposition to a welfare-policy idea that’s gaining traction among those looking for an alternative in the post-industrial age. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/b...inland-useless-says-trade-union-a7571966.html
So what will we do when say 20 percent of a workforce is needed in providing all goods and services? Providing no income for the 80 percent sure as hell will result in a most violent revolution. Someone had best begin thinking about this now instead of waiting for the revolution. Solving a problem by revolution is not the most intelligent way to proceed. If you don't want your politicians and elites hung from oak trees.
What the article actually says is that they're ending their 2-year test of 2000 unemployed receiving universal basic income. The results of the actual test are set to release in 2019. It's speculation to say if it was a failure or not, it was a test - not meant to last forever. Eventually with automation, robots will be keeping up our production as high as it is now, and much of the human labour will not be needed. It's a bit early for universal income though.
Universal basic income is an unsustainable policy and it appears that the Finns are Finished with that form of stupidity!
We'll come up with more goods and services, better goods and services. Amazing how the free flow of capital and human ingeniuity and the free market always seems to find a use for all that excess labor and excess capital. Just keep government and government planners out of it as much as possible.
Wonder when Stockton CA will learn that lesson http://www.wnd.com/2018/02/u-s-city-to-experiment-with-universal-basic-income/#VxKS7Cuyvsb7wGJw.99
I am sure they also will learn that universal income is a fool's pursuit. I believe that Rome tried that sometime before they collapsed and the winds of change blew the dust through their once proud empire.
They never had universal basic income in the first place. Only a few actually got it so it was a failed experiment even if it were to succeed.
And when automation and AI results in a significant portion of the population permanently unemployed, do they just starve?
This is a very interesting question but I'm not sure it will ever be a problem. Automation is currently at an all time high and unemployment almost zero. I think (hope) "robots" will be another buggy whip scenario and the increased automation will free us to do bigger and better things. It's a great time to be alive!
