Venezuela's dictator Maduro rigged his country's election – and is now terrified it's not rigged enough

Venezuela's odious dictator, former bus driver Nicolás Maduro, is already in hot water internationally for rigging his country's election when the phony snap vote is to be held on May 20.
He rigged the thing first by making it a snap election not all parties were prepared for, then by forbidding all of Venezuela's credible opposition leaders to run, and then by leaving just one puppet guy, a former Chavista named Henri Falcón, to be the placeholder opposition candidate to create the appearance of a race.
    Apparently, even that's a problem.
Thursday, he bellowed that he'd be prepared to take up arms to make "revolución" if Falcón were to have the temerity to win. The Miami Herald's estimable Jim Wyss reports:
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is warning that he'll take up arms and lead a revolution if a government comes into power that wants to hand the country's "riches" to "imperialist" forces.
In a campaign speech Wednesday, Maduro – who is hoping to win a new six-year term in a highly questioned May 20 election – accused his nearest opposition rival, Henri Falcón, of wanting to sell the country out to "the gringos."
    ~Snip~
Everyone knows the Venezuelan government is out of money and can't pay welfare benefits, so the promise of more from Maduro rings hollow. Notice how in his quoted speech, he makes lots of blather about protecting the country's "riches," something that must make Venezuela's starving people gag. He's got no money to pay welfare benefits, so all that is there is Maduro's willingness to use such empty threats alongside his empty calls for "revolución."
He's obviously running scared. One hopes it will be as bad for the socialist ogre as he fears.

Perhaps Maduro should call on his buddies, Danny Glover, Sean Penn, Harry Belafonte, and Oliver Stone to come campaign for him if he is worried about losing to Falcon.
A once great country, rich in natural resources has been reduced to a third-world banana republic via Marxist Socialism.
Their economy was once in the top 25 of the world....then Chavez and his Marxist Socialists took over. Two decades later the citizens of Venezuela are breaking into zoos and eating their family pets. There is barely any food to feed their population and the average Venezuelan has lost 25 pounds in the last year. I guess that is one good thing about Socialism.....it might kill you, but it is a great diet plan.
That is truly amazing. Venezuela, was not only the richest OPEC country but a proverbial Garden of Eden, with friendly, good and decent people, now reduced to ashes by Marxist Socialism, and refusing to accept this fact Maduro spews forth the gringos, the Yanqui Imperialists, and the same old Marxist drivel from the left going on now for decades and nearly a full century. Typical of Communists who refuse to accept any blame for the sufferings of the people who are abandoning the country in droves, creating problems in Colombia and Brazil. Maduro needs to be summarily executed as well as his following.

More foaming at the mouth propaganda by a hack writer and apologist for America's racist president.

Venezuela election: Maduro wins second term amid claims of vote rigging
20 May`18 - Venezuela's electoral council says Nicolás Maduro has won re-election, in a vote marred by an opposition boycott and claims of foul play. Early reports said turnout for the vote was unusually low - about 46% of the electorate.

Damn. Sounds like he needed help from the Russians. Or Hillary. Or the DNC. Maybe Bernie should have run.

Congrats to Maduro. The US needs to stop sabotaging Venezuela's economy and mind their own business.

The bottom line: Venezuela was at one time Latin America's richest country. Now it's a leftist hellhole where people are starving and leaving by the thousands.

me, a simpleton: socialism isn't when the majority of your economy is in the private sector

you, a genius: socialism is when a government other than the USA controls oil

Nope, since they will all end up being refugees here anyways we might as well move in there and take over the country, make it our 51st state and take their resources for ourselves.

Venezuela's economy was wrecked by privatization before Chavez. But they obeyed the US until Chavez. The US has engaged in economic terrorism as the did to Chile in the 70's because Chavez and Maduro don't genuflect to the US as Columbia, Honduras and other puppet states do.

It's NONE of out business. Trump has turned back refugees from Honduras whose country was ruined by a coup against a leftist government in 2009 supported by Obama and Clinton.

He should start a weight loss company. The Maduro Diet is far more effective than Weight Watchers.

America's racist president? Ummm . . . racist race-baiting and race-agitating Barack Obama is no longer president. It was in the news and everything when he belly crawled out of office.

WELL, YES: Venezuela is now a dictatorship.

Maduro is not alone in the world. In recent years, Venezuela has rebuilt its strategic global alliances, giving clear preference – in the form of oil diplomacy and insider access to Latin American politics – to countries that share Maduro’s world view and governing style.

The regime’s relationships with the authoritarian governments of Russia, China, Turkey, Bolivia and Cuba – all of which congratulated Maduro on his win – are strong.

These countries’ leaders practice a new kind of authoritarianism. In the 21st century, dictatorships do not necessarily take on the classic form – that of Mao, Lenin or the Latin American military juntas of the 1970s and 1980s.

Instead, Vladimir Putin, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the like often maintain a democratic facade. They hold elections – but they do so under corrupt conditions, ensuring that they and their parties stay in power.

They decry capitalism and imperialism, claiming to rule in the name of the people. Meanwhile, they amass great personal wealth and power.

Venezuela’s Maduro, who enriched his inner circle while the country starved, is now indisputably part of this crowd.

Looting the country is the entire point of stealing elections.

It never was a great country. The entire reason why they voted in Chavez, is because the people were hungry.
