Ah, so 'vested interests' then? I suspect there are those among who - as in the photo which accompanies the link - are able to judge the speed across the sky by the length of time the asteroid remains in sight. So nothing to do with 'science', just a visual timeline guess. Anyway this conversation is starting to bore me now, especially knowing you're one of them, and have the motivation to perpetuate the mystique by trying to demoralise us non-scientists. Just because we're not scientists doesn't mean we're dumb, y'know! [IMG]

so you cant track the asteroid, you just observe it in the sky and calculate speed by how long its in your view? How did you do that without tracking it? You would have also needed to know its direction and diatance. Just curious to see this science.

Stop trying to hype it up - you won't bamboozle me so easily as some others. I recognize a charlatans when I come up against one.

You posted your calculation method. Im asking how it works. You dont trust science but you somehow trust guessing the speed of asteroids by watching them as they pass by?

Actually AO, this discussion has reminded me of a maxim in the armed services here - I first heard it when I joined the RAF. It's 'Bullshit baffles brains', and it's absolutely true.

Of course I trust science - how could I not, when I see the results of scientific experimentation all around me, it's fake science I have a problem with?

you mean like calculating speeds of asteroids by looking at them as they pass by?

If the height is known and the length of the visible streak in the sky then the speed can be determined from the aperture time of the camera. This is just basic geometry.

Your "Problem" seems to be your perception of what is FAKE science, in that it can be defined as whatever you disagree with. Added to this interesting concept would be a purposeful choice to remain ignorant of the majority of details of virtually every aspect you comment on.

When communicating with Americans you shouldn't use the word anorak as you do. We view an anorak as a hooded rain jacket. We also view a car boot as a car trunk. Flats are apartments. lifts are elevators. Hope that helps.

Alright then, delete 'anorak' and insert 'nerd' - that's an American word.

So far you haven't identified anything from NASA that is fake.

    International Space Station on UStream.
Looking for high definition views of Earth from the Space Station?
Live video from the International Space Station includes internal views when the crew is on-duty and Earth views at other times.

I don't challenge the existence of the ISS.

Thus do you confirm the Space shuttle is not fake. This confirms the Atlas rocket before it that was the basis for its boosters which confirms the Apollo program which confirms Mercury....we can go back further but I prefer going forward. Do you challenge Viking leading to the many rovers that have been and are on Mars? The Hubble space telescope or the upcoming Webb?

So according to you the ISS has nothing whatsoever to do with NASA?

Sorry - I don't like not responding (sorry for the double-negative too? lol) to posts, but your customary wordplay to 'prove' every scenario gets on my nerves, so I put you on ignore for a while.

NASA results have been corroborated by scientists the world over.

Are you really suggesting there is a world wide conspiracy of just about every last scientist, all plodding along at scientist salary in order to fool you?

They're all aboard the same gravy train - haven't you considered that? I pity the one who would step out of line; but then if it meant they'd lose a lucrative job for life, who'd be daft enough to do that??

What do you say about the calculated date for Halley's comet coming into view in july 2061 which is traveling at 160,000mph? And the correct prediction of its previous pass by date.
