    I hope you are right, but autocracies tend to stay in power for a long time. Like you, I put my hopes on diversity and younger voters who tend to not be blind ideologues.

    All of these men who became authoritarian rulers descended from common roots. They were not members of the oligarchic ruling classes before they managed to take power away from the oligarchs.

    If I don't have a clue to the meaning of oligarchy, Merriam Webster and I are in the same boat, because we have the same definition.

    <Mod Edit>

    An oligarchy is when a small group of people have all the power. Hitler, Stalin, Mao, etc. were all part of an oligarchy.

    For me, it's inconceivable that the increasingly more diverse, better-educated electorate, enhanced by the increasing participation of women in politics, would resign themselves to such an egregious debasement of American values.

    Good points! And I'll add that Eisenhower, the promoter of one of the largest government programs in our nation's history, perhaps second to the transcontinental railway, was a Republican.

    With your permission I'll also add that everyone in Western Europe has access to good, modern healthcare for free or at a reasonable cost.There are still millions of Americans whose only access to healthcare is a hospital emergency room with no access to preventative medicine.

    What you are missing here is the rise of nationalistic populism in Europe. Trumpism is not an exclusively American phenomenon. Trump is a symptom, not a cause, of the breakdown of the post war liberal democratic world order.

    Trump's agenda does resemble, in form, and embrace many of John F. Kennedy's perspectives. Mike Pence has said on several occasions that Kennedy was an inspiration to him as a young emerging Catholic.

    The bottom line is whether the rest of the Republican Party elites will embrace the conservative base or will try to fully revert back to being pawns of the Progressive GOP-E and DNC-E alliance.

    There is virtually NO difference between the Progressive Elites of today and the Slaveholder Aristocrats of the 19th century. None !!!
