    Normal stuff.

China, against all International laws, is attempting to claim territorial waters and control in the South China Sea.

The Taiwan Strait is 130km wide at it's narrowest point, which allows ships to pass well beyond globally recognized territorial limits.

its normal, ship pass through that area during obama era, japan do it, so does others. China only monitor it, just like when chinese warship transit near US water, we monitor them too.

ok but this is a show of force now because obama was more of a blow hard if that , but chinas ships are more likely spy surveillance ships

show of force of what? sail few ship via the strait? even vietnam done that before, so did japan, so does many countries. They dont care. you can sail as many ship in ScS or around taiwan. it will just give china more excuses to build more ships, and put more weapon in ScS.

The taiwan strait is international waterway, they are not gonna stop that. just like china sail through near US water that we indicate is for international use.

But the artificial islands they are building will cause trouble.

The Taiwan Strait is not the area where China has built the illegal artificial islands. The Taiwan Strait separates the nation of Taiwan from the Chinese mainland and lie about 700-800 miles north the disputed are in the South China Sea.

    Agreed.

Turning a tidal reef into an island, and then unilaterally declaring it sovereign defensible land is provocative and threatening. Further declaring all oil and other energy deposits within these new territories part of China exacerbates the problem. Add in China's refusal to accept Taiwan as a sovereign Nation, and the whole region is rather tense.

Allowing that annexation to take place without response would be a big mistake. In the end, it's sabre rattling, as I don't believe China and the US are interested in mutual annihilation.

Nonsense. Every nation has the right to sail the seas.

So China can claim the Taiwan Straights and the Sth China sea as its
    own and that's NOT imperialism?
It's no different to modern Russian imperialism.
    And the old Marxist imperialism.

Not what I meant, to the contrary - it's China assuming international waters
are its own. And that's incredibly dangerous. It reminds me of Japan in the
    1930 and 1940's.

Hey trucker, do you realize what you wrote? Imagine a Chinese fleet near our coast and threatening us continuously, and when our government has games to show we will defend our shores, China sends even more ships to get us to back off. To back off what, protecting one's own shores?

    Which is "plain old imperialism"?

Sailing ships through an international straight? Or creating artificial islands to expand national territory?
