It wasnt in confrontation they worked mosltly next to each other and sometimes with each other. If the US wanted russia out of syria it would only take a few days.

Russian has too little presence in syria to withstand a couple of aircraft carrier groups. Its also too hard to supply and reach from russia.

You saw what happened when a russian plane by accident flew over turkey: bye bye plane. Rest wont be different US presence in that region is a lot bigger then the russian one.

Yes. Russia has a small land group in Syria. But Russia has powerful means of countering aircraft carriers From the classic Tu-95 with long-range anti-ship missiles, to the latest "Kinzhal" complexes. And this is only non-nuclear means. This, of course, is a matter of political determination, but there is a high probability that after a direct attack by the US Air Force on Russian bases in Syria, the American fleet in the Black Sea would be wiped. The Black Sea is very far from you, but very close to Russia

There is no carrier group in the black sea and for operations in syria against russia they wouldnt put one there.

And if the US would do a surpise attack on the US, russia wouldnt ahev the time for any of that most of its planes would be destroyed on the gound and the rest shot from the eir without much problems.

If russia would attack the US NATO would get involved including turkey and russian forces would be as good as cut off in syria. Yes they might surpise the US and do some serious damaga but once NATO starts goign on the offensive russia doesnt stand a chance.

Whatever russia has or gets in the air gets taken out in the next few hours.

Russia itself is too far away to stop or help in any of this and russia has no ally that would help in such a case.

The US (and Britain) supplied a substantial amount of war material to the Soviet Union, about $11 billion worth at wartime prices. I don't know how anyone would even try to work out how vital this was in Soviet victory over the Germans, but it's unquestionable that the 'loan' of 25 000 000 Russian lives, fighting never less than 75% and sometimes 90% of the Wehrmacht, was critical to our mutual victory over the Nazis. $11 billion divided by 25 million works out to a bit more than $400 a life. I don't think we can say they got it cheaply.

But here's the critical point: Stalin was a very bad man. Not only did he oppress his own people, but he ran active spy rings in the US, and had tens of thousands of useful idiots in and around the CPUSA (totally under Soviet domination) deeply involved in American politics: at their height they controlled 11 national unions, 1/3 of the CIO and had great influence in Hollywood. (Some things never change.). Russia today is a libertarian paradise compared to Russia under Stalin, and its influence in the US is a tiny fraction of what it was then.

However, it was in our own interests to co operate with Stalin and even supply him with many billions of dollars worth of military equipment. We benefitted, they benefitted. Where we can find areas of mutual interest, that's the attitude we should take toward Russia now.

 

After the war...Patton/Churchill had a point, the russkis should've been halted/pushed back somewhere east of the Vistula, and most of Europe would've been spared the Asiatic horde.
