It wasn't a cheap shot. Trump is, in fact, an idiot.
I'm at the top of my pay band. I won't see much of a raise until the actual industry wide avg. pay for my job increases. Get it?
Are there any professionals that post here?

Trump is at the top of his pay band.
His is higher because he is smarter. Meritocracy in effect.

I am never at the top of my pay band.
    Because I invest.
Because I start companies with my savings. I constantly seek to grow.

Don't place limits on yourself, or you will be limited by them.

If you really are a PM at a large company then you know damn well that that's not how it works.

Keep waiting for the world to give you a pay rise mate.
Blame Trump if it does not come.

Blame anyone except yourself, and your career has peaked.
    You have found your limit.

We have no f*cking self-respect in this country, Baff.

China screws us raw and we reward them for it.

Then when our president tries to remedy the situation we whine and bitch about it instead of backing him up by boycotting Chinese goods.

This isn't about Trump - it's about our country and our countrymen.

Everyone in this country should be pulling together and breaking China's balls right now. Shame on us...

The claim the OP was making is clearly not accurate and I'm providing anecdotal evidence to that end. If it's not evident to you what's going on, do us all a favor and simply remain silent. Better to be thought a fool after all.

According to you, the guy that make less than you are worth because of Trump... We are a capitalist society. Your company pays you what you are worth, nothing more. If you feel you are not making enough, it is up to you to convince your company that you are worth more to them. If your company doesn't agree, go find another company that does agree with you. If you keep striking out, maybe you are not as good of a software developer as you believe you are.

It's not a whole lot different in my country.
If anything yours is better for national spirit.

I essentially feel that it does need to be a personal choice. That sanctions and tariffs are not what is needed.
    Public spirit is needed.
A Jap would not dream of buying foreign if Japanese produce was available.
    Germans won't buy foreign cars.

    I only buy British food.

The local pub only buys local food. It supports local business as it is 100% dependent on locals for it's custom.
Foreign is cheaper, but... it's about community.

    That's it. You've got it.

Almost all of us think we are undervalued/underpaid.
This is human nature. A conceit.

When you believe you can go no further, you have peaked. Your career is at it's ceiling. If you can see no way to earn more money... that's it. Your career has peaked.
When you get to the top of a profession, in order to keep advancing, you start a new company. Learn additional skills. Take on additional responsibilities.
Waiting for Trump to save you? = fail.

Are you naive or ignorant? HR has pay ranges for every job in the company. If you are at the top of your range then you already make more than your peers. This is the way it works in the real world.

Given that others here claim it has gone down, up is to be celebrated.

    More is more.
To treat positives the same as negatives is self defeating.

Would you like more still? Of course you would.
Will anyone ever have enough? Unlikely.

Unless one knows the meaning of the words "Fact" and "Idiot" The fact is that they don't pay you more because they know you cant find a better offer elsewhere. If your talent was rare or in high demand, they would have to pay you more to retain you.

If you consider Trump an idiot, you must think extremely low of democrats for losing to him.

So you are at the top of your range, and you blame Trump because you are not making more. If you are worth it, your company will move you into a new pay category, such as lead software developer, etc. What the heck are you complaining about exactly?

It is about community and that's the whole problem - Americans lost their sense of community decades ago.

Last week I saw a middle-aged steel worker in Illinois break down in tears when he was asked what it meant to him and his community after their plant reopened and rehired 500 workers who got laid off 2 years ago.

That steelworker who got his job, his dignity and his life back is what this is all about, and too many Americans have lost sight of that. I'm more than happy to pay a little more for stuff to see him and others like him get their jobs and lives back.

I may be wrong, but if all of us pulled together and did our part these trade squabbles would end a whole lot quicker than they would if we forced our leaders to fight this battle for us on their own. We think and act like we don't have stake in this battle, that we have no responsibility or role to play.

I guess it goes to figure that when we lost our sense of community we lost our concept of unity and unity of purpose along with it. We have become the United States of America in name only...

You won't be paying any more.
You will only pay more if you buy foreign. There is no need for you to do this.
    America has the domestic supply.

The business model in the US is based on profits. That model says cheaper sells more.
You only need to look at Whirlpool crying about loosing foreign business to know they are correct.

I would ask you to think about one thing.
Why can the US steel companies not compete with those of Europe.
Forget about China and think about Europe.
If you give that an honest look you will see tariffs are not the answer. Investment and innovation is the answer.
Given tariffs the steel companies will simply open their worst plants again and raise prices. We as a country will be worse off.
If you want to give your money away, help start a modern plant and teach that guy how to work in it.

Hm. I see nothing in the article text to justify this silly Trump worship.

Low unemployment has businesses offering better compensation packages to workers, pushing the employment cost index up to 2.8 percent over a year ago levels, according to a report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics released Tuesday. That is the best annual gain since the third quarter of 2008, which saw the index rise 2.9 percent.

It is only slight gain over the quarterly survey released in March, which indicated a 2.7 percent annual gain. The measure of private-sector wages and salaries, which excludes the costs associated with benefits, rose 2.9% year over year, exactly as it did early in the year. This indicates that wage gains are not accelerating rapidly—something that might convince the Federal Reserve to pick up the pace of interest rate hikes in an effort to keep inflation in line with its target.

So, no indication that this number is exceptional in any way, and nothing to tell us how the GOP's tax cut to the wealthy impacted this. In fact, it is said to be caused by low unemployment, something Trump has had no effect on at all.
