    From the Guardian:
We’re in a new age of obesity. How did it happen? You’d be surprised ...

We are being had (like guinea-pigs) by an industry the sole pursuit of which is profits, profits, profits.

Typically, when this happens, it's up to LaLaLand on the Potomac to take the cudgel in hand and officiate the correction by means of legislation. But when even that means has been "bought", what's a country to do?

    Change governments, that's what ...

food companies learned from the tobacco lawsuits and bought laws so they can not be sued in the same ways

"'Cheeseburger bill' puts bite on lawsuits"

    http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/10/20/cheeseburger.bill/

"The "cheeseburger bill," as it has been dubbed in Congress, stems from class-action litigation that accused McDonald's of causing obesity in children.

The legislation's backers say matters of personal responsibility don't belong in the courts."

So, we change the laws back to where they were, and we start with the upcoming elections in November.

With Donald Dork in the White House, it won't amount to much, because he will refuse to sign any bills changing laws. But, he too can be "rectified" in November 2020.

Ie., sent back to the dark hole out of which he was propelled upon the body politic.

Unless, of course, Americans actually prefer the down-slope to economic oblivion.

One never knows where that dark road leads ...

I think eventually people will treat HFCS like cigarettes, but it's going to take educating the public and as it's one of our major exports I do not see the government doing so anytime soon, that and the government was the one pushing the low fat diet nonsense in the late 70's that started us down this trend, the gov would have to admit they were wrong and harmed people

I do not think cigarette or fast food corps should be sued, I am fine with adding a tax though, a reasonable tax, not a 500% tax, then using the money for educating the public

I also realize that if everyone changed their eating habits all at once, many would starve, so has to be a slower move, it's sad, but a reality, though anyone can start anytime they want - the hard part is most have an addiction to HFCS\Sugar

Most of these people have only themselves to blame.

I've only heard one story from a man who's obesity wasn't his own blame.

Maybe it's just ignorance or lack of will power. Maybe some people don't know how or don't like to make healthy meals. A healthy meal will make you feel full without making you fat, something many people apparently don't seem to realize.

America is the only country, where the poor people are fat.
