Well ISIS needs the money, and now they're getting it from the oil - once again. Besides, as long as ISIS is alive and thriving, the US can remain in Syria and use terrorism as an excuse. This will keep Assad and competitors from getting the oil and profiting from it - and the heck with the Syrian people. Let Europe cope with them.

This should teach others not to disobey. We're the greatest. :clapping:

The recent report from the UN Security Council’s Sanctions Monitoring Team reads. The document is dated July 27, but was only released to the public this week.

“Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, having been defeated militarily in Iraq and most of the Syrian Arab Republic during 2017, rallied in early 2018. This was the result of a loss of momentum by forces (American) fighting it in the east of the Syrian Arab Republic,”

The slow-down gave IS “breathing space to prepare for the next phase of its evolution into a global covert network. As of June 2018, the terrorist group has been controlling “small pockets of territory in the Syrian Arab Republic on the Iraqi border,” effectively carrying on with its quasi-state ways.

“[ISIS] was able to extract and sell some oil, and to mount attacks, including across the border into Iraq,” the reports stated, adding that the terrorist group regained “access to some oil fields in northeastern” Syria.

There has always been great doubt about in whose interests Daesh exists.

Now here's something interesting from the Turkish Anadolu news agency - which I'm going to assume is true, although it might not be. (Fog of war you know).

According to local sources, Daesh/ISIS militants tried to drive a bomb-laden vehicle into the housing facility of US coalition soldiers at Deir ez-Zor, but the vehicle was destroyed by the coalition planes. (
How did the planes know what was in the vehicle, and get into the air so fast? Sounds strange to me?) A number of terrorists were killed, along with one civilian. Five civilians were injured in the attack. They also tried to stage two more attacks in the area while clashing with the Kurds.

If true, it means that while the US is battling ISIS to a minor degree so they could hold on to the Kurds, (since they are now re-uniting with Syria), ISIS is also being used as an excuse for the US to remain in Syria.

Then there is Turkey who is fighting the Kurds, and who supported ISIS in the past by buying the stolen oil and giving them supplies in return.

It's all so strange, especially considering this 'alledgedly' happened, (since I'm starting to have my doubts), right after the report from the UN became available.

Did you see various reports from Gulf News, al Araybia and others?

Stolen oil? LOLOL.. ISIS was selling oil to Israel and Assad. The middleman was a Syrian married to an Alawite and traveling on a Russian passport.

Why have you repeatedly ignored the facts to make accusations against Turkey?

While the US and your beloved Saud do not give a carp about the humanitarian crisis in Syria ... apparently Assad does.

I trust the UN report from RT, as for the report from the Turkish Anadulu news service, I'm not too sure since it came right after the UN report. I can't understand how the jets could get into the air fast enough to stop a truck loaded with explosives, since it had to be pretty close for them to realize it was going to crash into the base.

This is probably why your Saudi owned Alarabiya news service didn't mention the jets

Right, blame the defenders and not the aggressors. Lot's of logic there Margot. But that's typical.

US-backed forces have repelled a raid by ISIS extremists group targeting barracks housing American and French troops in eastern Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Saturday.

The Syrian Democratic Forces and the US-led coalition supporting them were on high alert after the raid late Friday at the Omar oil field in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor, the Britain-based war monitor said.

“The attack targeted the oil field’s housing, where US-led coalition forces and leaders of the Syrian Democratic Forces are present,” Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman said.

Seven extremists were killed in the attack, which ended at dawn after clashes near the barracks, he added.

Contacted by AFP, neither the US-led coalition nor the Kurdish-led SDF were immediately available for comment.

In October last year, the SDF took control of the Omar oil field, one of the largest in Syria, which according to The Syria Report economic weekly had a pre-war output of 30,000 barrels per day.

“It’s the largest attack of its kind since the oil field was turned into a coalition base” following its capture by the SDF, Abdel Rahman said.

ISIS overran large swathes of Syria and neighboring Iraq in 2014, proclaiming a “caliphate” in territory it controlled.

But the extremists group has since lost nearly all of it to multiple offensives in both countries.

In Syria, two separate campaigns- by the US-backed SDF and by the Russia-supported government- have reduced ISIS presence to pockets in Deir Ezzor and in the vast desert that lies between it and the capital.

Assad was dropping barrel bombs on them, that's why they fled.

No, but there have always been vocal kooks who regularly assume and believe the worst about the US and our foreign military engagements.

People were being killed by Assad and were fleeing Syria before we ever got involved. We do not help terrorists; we hunt and kill them. We help those who are not terrorists, though it may have happened that terrorists have benefited indirectly. Meanwhile, Russia brands all enemies of Assad terrorists and attacks them all indescriminately.

Truth, but Russia has a long-running, well understood practice of denying all inconvenient truths and asserting something entirely different as a propaganda tactic. What is factually true and what is not so is less important, in the end, than what people end up accepting and believing, especially when those beliefs are intended to benefit Russia politically, economically, etc.

Oh come on Durandal. The first thing the terrorists did when they entered Homs was to tell all the Christians to leave or be killed. It's not something you would ever find in the MSM - Christians don't matter you know? Thank God we have other sources.

Chances are good that you'll be labeled a terrorist if you join the fray while the country is overrun with terrorists.

If it walks like a duck ......
