There is national security interest of former intelligence officers retaining their national security clearance. This fact was noted by the CNN host. They have decades of experience and can provide guidance to the current individuals protecting this country. Retaining their national security clearance allows for consultations much quicker and more efficiently if those individuals do not have to get new security clearances simply because Trump wanted to revoke the security clearance of those people that criticized him.

 

Then they can reapply when needed. Also mentioned in the interview. Are you sure you watched it?
