"Learning from history is impossible if the narrative is wrong. So let’s clear the record: By the time Chávez was elected, Venezuela already had 40 years of socialism under its belt and precious little, if any, experience with free markets. Military dictator Marcos Pérez Jiménez was toppled in January 1958. Romulo Betancourt, an avowed socialist, was elected president later that year. When Venezuela promulgated its 1961 constitution, Betancourt immediately suspended Article 96, which read: “All can freely engage in the profitable activity of their choice, without any limitations other than those provided for in this Constitution and those established by law for security, health or other reasons of social interest.”" https://www.wsj.com/articles/venezuelas-long-road-to-hell-1528652625 History lessons can be a bitch. Socialism doesn't work
), Socialism"works",....for everyone else....except the "socialists" themselves. Prime example....former USSR.
Maduro owns this one... Venezuela 'paralysed' by launch of sovereign bolivar currency 21 Aug.`18 - Venezuela came to a standstill on Tuesday as the country tried to deal with its newly introduced currency. This is today's Venezuela AUG 20, 2018 - Maria Celeste Molina warily pulled cash from a downtown ATM and stuffed the bolivars in her purse. Come tomorrow, she had no idea what they might buy. “I need the cash to travel tomorrow,” the 24-year-old university student said. “But I don’t know if there will be public transport or how much the new fares will be.”
The only thing Socialists never run out of is zeros. AFTER YEARS OF PRAISING SOCIALIST CHAVEZ, NETS IGNORE VENEZUELA’S ECONOMIC DEMISE. It’s just a spot of bad luck; pay it no mind.
US Socialists would similarly destroy the US should they ever obtain the power to do so. Venezuela's economy in complete collapse – and the mother of all human waves outward begins Under the guise of fixing Venezuela's collapsing socialist economy, the Maduro regime has destroyed it – and some scary reports of vast human waves of migration are about to come.
So, when my liberal friends ask me what a nice tropical vacation might be......I recommend they don't go to Venezuela. Not because it wouldn't be instructional, but because they are still my friends...
LATE STAGE SOCIALISM: Venezuela’s economy in complete collapse — and the mother of all human waves outward begins. “It’s as if the Maduro regime is at war with economics itself: the regime doesn’t like what the economic forces are telling it about its bad socialist decisions, so it shuts down the economy altogether, and that’s the solution.”
History is littered with the failed hopes and dreams of leftists. Anyone who believes in socialism is just an idiot. It’s like believing in the Easter Bunny.
No it can't. Market signals and the opportunity to succeed or fail are necessary to allocate resources efficiently and for growth.
Venezuela has proven again that even a wealthy country can fail. If the fools in the U.S. choose to follow Venezuela, the results will be the same.
Not at all; there is no reason a command economy cannot be market friendly, we really just need a fifteen dollar an hour minimum wage, unemployment compensation for being unemployed on an at-will basis in our at-will employment States, and Industrial Automation to help with social costs.
1. If socialism is so bad, why are capitalist countries so desperate to undermine them through sanction, coups and wars? 2. If socialism is so bad, why does our government subsidize banks, agribusiness and other companies? If we really had a free market they wouldn't be getting handouts.
There are countries all across the world more "socialist" than Venezuela and none of them suffer the same problems. The kicker is that they are not dictatorships (disregarding Russia, but it is only avoiding Venezuela's problems because of its greater oil revenue).
Capitalist nations are not desperate to undermine them. Venezuela was not undermined by capitalists it fell because socialism is a consistent failure. We subsdize said businesses because even capitalist nations have some fools in government.
