For years, Republicans in Congress had repeatedly vowed to repeal 'ObamaCare', staging 70 show votes against it, and making it their strident rallying cry. They got their angry tools all wee wee'd up. Finally, they had a president of sorts who shared their vow, promising to repeal it "immediately!" and replace it with "something terrific!" that covered "everybody!" at "less cost!" In control of the Executive, the Senate, and the House, nothing stood in the way of finally being true to their oft-expressed word. So, what happened? "We all calls it 'TrumpCare' now - and them 'liberals' better not try to take it away from us!"
I can only compare the years of hyperbolic rhetoric excoriating 'ObamaCare', and Lyin' Don's vow to replace it with "something terrific!" that covers "everybody!" at "less cost!" with the conspicuous impotence since they were given the opportunity to live up to their words.
Democrats in California like Gavin newsome are promoting health care for anyone and everyone in the world who makes it into America somehow unchecked and unregulated free health care paid for by the American people. The Democrat party is becoming a globalist interests group who advocates for every person in the world in American politics.
Unfortunately, the Republicans tripped themselves up with the addition of "replace". The replace should be up to the States per the 10th Amendment. And it is more Republican that way too. thus spake Moi
Nobody took the replace part seriously anyway. We've come to know Republican lies when we hear them. The only government funded healthcare Republicans approve of is to buy stronger locks for the hospital doors Just like the lies that their first order of business if they somehow return next year won't be to repeal healthcare again. Let's make sure they don't get the chance
Very true. "Repeal and replace" made as much sense as "cleanup and get dirty". Sometimes Republicans are their own worst enemy, and they certainly were on this one. Leave it up to the states, and eventually we would get to the most practical solution; because only the practical states would succeed, and the impractical ones would fail. Better that, than for the whole country to fail.
It would be a lot more palatable if they made the legislation temporary, like to automatically last for 6-10 years without any additional legislation having to be positively passed after that to repeal it. They're in kind of an emergency situation right now, coming after the recession, but that doesn't mean they need to make it permanent.
They whined for years that they would repeal and replace "ObamaCare." When they finally were handed the power to do so, they did neither. Meanwhile, Lyin' Don's promise of "something terrific!" that covers "everybody!" at "less cost!" turned out to be as credible as his repeated assurances he would release his tax returns. You won't see Republicans trying to gut the ACA again if the American people have anything to say about it. And they do.
Oh this was a complete failure of the Republican Party. They made a whole bunch of noise but when it came down to it they lacked the strength of their convictions. That alone should make a few of them lose their seats to actual conservative contenders. To be frank they lied to their constituents.
The GOP has the backbone of a jellyfish, even at the state level. They beat their chests and play to their base when they know the policy they are pushing won't be passed by the present president or governor. But then they get real quiet when they have the numbers to get it passed.
Turned out the Republicans believed the Rhetoric and trash talking about the ACA that Trump has worked so hard to destroy...... Then the citizens didn't want it taken away but improved on . Again Republicans on the wrong side of history Keep listening to the con man Trump ................ then do the opposite
Then again, what would you expect from people who believe that "there is no sand in the desert" because Trump tells them to? Trumpies are funny like that.
Too bad but when people without insurance run up the bills in the emergency room or the hospital and then duck the bill everyone else who has insurance or pays their medical bills or pays taxes is going to chip in and pay for the medical care. The issue isn't medical care for everyone the issue is how the country is going to do it in an efficient manner.
That was a Trump quote when he realized it wasn't as simple to overhaul as he'd asserted during his campaign
I understand that you think price capping and controlling other people's income for your benefit is not stealing. I also understand that you think that paying for single payer system through taxes, which subsidizes you at the expense of those who earn more than you is not stealing either. Takers never think they're stealing. We should price cap your industry, knocking down your income to help pay for others' care. Perhaps a special tax just for people in your industry
You mean I have to tell you? Politicians are afraid of doing anything that might lose votes even though everything loses votes. So they do as little as possible. They are gutless cretins. Talk is cheap. How did I do?
Aided and abetted by the GOP-run House and Senate, Trump repeatedly promised to repeal 'ObamaCare' and replace it with "something terrific!" that "covers everybody!" at "less cost!" When will he attempt to fulfill his commitment?
I heard a Republican senate candidate being asked about the ACA and protection for pre-existing conditions. The guy was fully in campaign mode throughout, and his stated position on this was that he wanted to pass legislation for ensuring coverage for pre-existing conditions apart from the ACA. He did not detail what that would entail, but that also was not the main focus of the interview. I wonder what Republicans feel could work for this, exactly, and why they have not done more to "repeal and replace" as promised so far. It looks like they are about to lose their chance push through any partisan crap now. I wonder whether we will ever get something good at this rate. With so much polarized partisanship and so little room for compromise, both among the politicians and among those they are attempting to represent, I feel that there is no legislation possible. There is nothing that would be universally supported in the current climate. The climate needs to change.
