Agree to disagree about the Professor. I don't want Professors using their platform to force students or sway students towards a particular political view.

But it's not up to me, it's up to the school so the only thing I can do is send an email/letter to the University and explain why I think they are setting a bad example.

You can write your local Congressman and state government people. I don't think people who take government money should be preaching politics. It's like a nascar team sponsored by the government.

credits should never be tied to politics. That's absurd.

    :roflol:

    Only FIRED?

She should probably get The Chair.

"Firing" her would be the easy way out (for this unforgivable sin that has shook the foundations of The Republic).

I see no problem with that, as long as the professor offers the same extra credit to students who attend a Brian Kemp (Republican running for governor) event. (or a student could get double for going to both). I can see how a campaign rally could be an educational event.

If universities that receive government funds are allowed to play politics then churches that receive government funds should be allowed to play politics.

I think anyone that receives government money signs their soul away and needs to remain neutral. Using your public position paid for by the government to push your politics is wrong.

This isn't happening at UGA. Read the article. Here's the first two sentences from it (emphasis added):

Well, that and price, and it indicates you didn't care to read the article to get your basic facts straight.

Do you still get the credit if you go wearing a MAGA hat?

Price is comparable. The university doesn’t matter since all universities shouldn’t be afforded the same treatment.

Amazing (well, not really amazing) that leftists want to enable a college professor to use her position of authority to further her political goals.
It's also telling that people need to be bribed to show up at an Elizabeth Warren rally.

But seriously, this woman should be censored and reprimanded for misuse of her position. Not difficult to imagine the same posters screaming if some professor used her position to gain support for republican candidates?

It's not a matter of pushing, but of educating, augmenting political education with a real-world event, like taking a field trip to a zoo or museum for relevant classes.

Of course Faux News would turn this into an outrage story to draw those angry clicks (ad $$)

I don't support what the professor did, but I do have a couple of questions.
--Was there a requirement that student agree with any of the speakers, or could they just show up, snap a selfie, and leave with some EC points?
--Do Conservative professors/teachers push their views on students?
This smells like one of those anecdotal examples of "see? I told you liberal education is poisoning minds."

My opinion is that people need to stay neutral if they accept government money otherwise they become tools for the government.

    Also
--Were other options for the same extra credit offered?

If it happened as reported, then yeah, I'm against what she did and would hope that the University does something to correct it. However, I have my reservations after seen how many times stories like this have been completely misrepresented in the media.

    No issue with this either.

Point is the government has no business being involved in what our universities teach or how
they do so. Universities such as Purdue have a sizable positive impact on their state. For example it is estimated Purdue offers Indiana a 2.1 billion benefit . That’s a substantial higher benefit than they are receiving.

I am guessing the State Governments want no part of upsetting their flagships.

This goes beyond free speech, by adhering to an evil ideology a student can enhance their grades, but only if they adhere to a single ideology. Had the extra credit been given for going to any political rally there would be no cause for concern...

It's convenient to claim this but maybe you don't mind professors that allow their personal politics to influence what they are teaching young
tuition paying students. I would be pissed if my money was being used to indoctrinate me into a political place I did not want to be.
