Section 1- All elections of federal and state executive and legislative offices shall be held on the first Saturday and Sunday of November, and all special elections shall also be held on Saturday and Sunday. Section 2- No person may be required to work on election days, excluding election officials, and all emergency services. Section 3- This amendment goes into effect in the next election after ratification.
I think there is a need for some nuance, but I fully believe that this would help out with some of the issues people have had with voting. And important it needs to be an amendment not a law as a law would be unconstitutional.
>_> must everything be controversial? It actually changes 0 state or federal laws, and makes it easier for those who have been allowed to vote, to vote easier. No one loses voter restriction laws, no one is forced to vote, it just make sure that the work barrier is gone <_<
Then don't vote. #Bye I already submitted this amendment to my congress persons and hopefully they will bring it to the floor, because only trolls with put up opposition to this amendment.
OMG what does that have to do with this amendment? I guess people will apose anything that comes from the other side.
If you are going to call a constitutional convention a balenced budget amendment is more important than your amendment
So all retail has to shut down for the entire weekend? I think that's going to be a tough sell. Most people do their grocery shopping on the weekend, it's when most enjoy eating at a restaurant, go to the malls going to the movies, etc. Good luck, lol
It does not prevent people from working it just says they can't force them to work which is a free weekend for people LOL.
And how many people would turn down a weekend off, do you think? Lol.... The moment one major retailer/restaurant chain/gas station chain/ etc. gets wind of this amendment going anywhere near a committee, the lobbyists for all retailers will come out full force.
Wholly and completely unnecessary. Further.. Tell us why you think shutting down the -entire- US economy for 2 days is a good idea.
No grocery stores, no restaurants, no gas stations, no movie theaters, no television, no trains, no buses, no airline flights....
It's to stop business from penalizing workers from taking of time to vote. They can pay extra on those days to get people to work. Unless you your self would take off as well
1: You proceed for a false premise -- no one need lose a single $ to vote 2: How much money will people lose by shutting down the entire US economy for 2 days? Tell us why you think shutting down the -entire- US economy for 2 days is a good idea.
You assume there is a burden to voting. LOL no way. You can vote early, absentee, or in person. Schedule conflicts are no excuse.
