False narrative and you know it don't play dumb most on here are fairly intelligent. Full Employment is a glorious thing right? I mean dropping to a lowest unemployment rate since 2000 is a good thing right? It's dropped 1.5% since 2016 that's good right?

So now Bitch McConnell is saying cut spending.

The need for federal government to cut spending has been obvious for half a century. Talk is cheap. Let's see the bills designed to cut spending.

It's not a false narrative to say that Trump didn't need to accomplish much to get the unemployment rate where it is. He got there by posting that lowest jobs gains in seven years which I don't see as any particularly fantastic accomplishment. And pro tip, most intelligent people punctuate.

We tend to agree on that

SS should be the last federal spending program cut

But if the debt continues to balloon out of control future congresses may have no choice

Look if the lowest rate since 2000 isn't enough to make you happy then I don't know what is. If it had went up 1.6% since he came into office would you still be saying no big deal? Like I said, false narrative and you know it.

Again, dismissing Rubio and Ryan as not representing the current Republican agenda while pointing to some random dude in Portland (who almost any Dem would describe as repugnant) as representing the Left... I mean... do you not get at face value how absurd that is, or how little you should expect to be taken seriously on account of it?

As unemployment declines, the rate of unemployment will also decline since the universe of jobs and job seekers decline. Common sense.

I did not dismiss them entirely

But you gave no real specifics of what they are proposing

In psrt because there are no specifics at this time

However I think the choice is cut social spending now or face fiscal ruin later along the lines of greece

    You missed my point.

I actually consider Trump's 2017 jobs number to be 'fine' but it Was the lowest in 7 years, which doesn't seem like anything to hang a hat on. Jobs gains had been trending downward for the three previous years as you'd expect as we get further removed from the Great Recession and Trump's 2017 number slotted right in to that trend. I'm not criticizing the 2017 number but I disagree with the idea that Trump deserves any particular credit for low unemployment numbers when he got there with the lowest jobs gains in seven years.

My issue isn't with the unemployment rate, my issue is with the idea that Trump accomplished anything special by getting us there when he did it by adding less jobs than had been added in any of Obama's last six years.

Tax Revenues are at record highs............above projected revenues when the tax cuts were passed. Strike 1

They have done nothing to SS, Medicare, and Medicaid. Strike 2.

They have done nothing to "cut the working people and the old". Strike 3.

    Great post...............great thread.

Letting people keep more of the money THEY EARN is not "spending".

Unless you think all money belongs to the government.

Are the additional tax revenues on track to equal the $1.5T that the cuts took out of the economy?

"They have done nothing to SS, Medicare, and Medicaid". The haven't repealed and replaced either, doesn't mean that it isn't part of their agenda.

They have done nothing to "cut the working people and the old" ...where to begin....

To deliberately take a pay cut is, effectively, spending... except you don't have anything to show for what you spent.

Yep, common sense would say that as unemployment declines, unemployment declines.

    You have it backwards

The tax cuts leave more money in the economy for individuals to spend

The bulk of those cuts went to corporations and the financial elite, neither of whom pump money in to the economy. You're arguing for trickle down economics, which is a farce,
