Dirty Donnie, besides being a birther...... :

"He began his 2016 presidential campaign with a speech disparaging Mexican immigrants as criminals and “rapists.”

He uses the gang MS-13 to disparage all immigrants. Among many other statements, he has suggested that Obama’s protection of the Dreamers — otherwise law-abiding immigrants who were brought to the United States illegally as children — contributed to the spread of MS-13.

In December 2015, Trump called for a “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States,” including refusing to readmit Muslim-American citizens who were outside of the country at the time.

Trump said a federal judge hearing a case about Trump University was biased because of the judge’s Mexican heritage.

In June 2017, Trump said 15,000 recent immigrants from Haiti “all have AIDS” and that 40,000 Nigerians, once seeing the United States, would never “go back to their huts” in Africa."

Of course, the trumpettes here won't consider any of this racist and will start yelling "fake news" and "alternative facts".

Haven't been to the Smithsonian for about 15 years.

Did they cover the black confederates?

I doubt it, get back with me if you find one.

Again I have no clue why you hadn't heard about it.

"The Park Service tells story. The story here is a story about fighting for freedom in a slave, Union state," U.S. Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke said. "We don't hide from history. We learn from history. This history is an important part of the American history and story."

Democrats should not hide from history..

The Southern generals wanted more black troops but the racist politicians said no because they didn't want black guys getting used to shooting guns and killing white people. They also thought that even if they won the war that the black guys would not be eager to give up their guns and go back to being slaves. And they hated the idea that black guys would have helped them to win the war. Bedford Forrest had a personal squad of black troops.

The US was OK with black troops through WWI but when it came to WWII they got in a snit and wouldn't let black troops kill white Nazis or even make weapons to fight them. It took an ex-KKK guy to integrate the military.

The Founders were hard-core KKK. They fought the British so that they could always have slaves and wrote it into law.

some thought slavery was a God given right, we fled a theocracy, not everyone wanted religious freedom for all, some just wanted to push their own version of Christianity sadly

I’ve heard about it a couple different places over the last month. I didn’t know it was a secret. I wasn’t surprised or upset and didn’t change my vote. Surprising I guess considering I’m about as white as you can get and quite nationalistic!

I think this is a fine thing to have done. Of course, I am not sure why you are applauding the federal government using your hard earned money to pay for a previously locally funded and operated site. But I am glad that you see the importance of the federal government and it's funding of history, culture, and land. I guess you are ready to join the democratic party. Probably doesn't get the news it deserves due to the fact that this comes on the heels of Trump reducing the Bear Ears National Monument by 85 percent a few months earlier.

Trump never mentioned it, not a single tweet which make me believe he did not even know about it

I am not bragging at all but I was on the train from Los Angeles to some town in TX with then Cassius Clay. I did not know at the time who he was. He was playing pinochle for a couple of days with his brother and the brothers wife. A black under my command informed me days later at Ft. Benning as we talked about things like that. I asked him, who is Cassius Clay? The 8th ranked heavyweight he says. Oh, I don't follow boxers until they are champions, sez me.

Well, he was busy with other things, like campaign rallies. It is a long proclamation so he may not have actually read it.

I went for the first time last year, definitely worth the trip. Of course the museum is pretty damn big and according to others you can’t really see the whole thing in one day.

Good move for POTUS, and this has been a much needed recognition.

I don’t think everything is about race for Trump and most of Americans. I figure this was just one more of thousands of things a President does as part of his job with no thought given to playing hands full of race cards.

If you want race relations to improve quit obsessing about it and inciting racism where none exists.

It is huge. When I was a kid our school used to take us up to the Smithsonian every year and I still haven't seen everything in the museum. Next time up there I'll have to check out the new exhibit.
