The shooter was a year younger than I am. He's not "old school". He's a veteran of the afghan war and a machine gunner. I can't imagine him being satisfied with a pistol rather than a rifle or carbine. Its just odd.

    Of course you don't.
They've been posted in several threads over the last several weeks. There's even a thread on it.
But as a tRUMPer, there's always certain things that are blinding. The see, hear, and speak no evil thing.

1 muslim attacker and all you tRUMPers would have dozens of threads about banning muslims.
How many attacks in the last few weeks by white males? Do you even know? Where's the RW outrage? The only thing coming out of tRUMPers is, you won't get my guns.

I suppose he couldn't get his hands on a M-60 or a M-240 machine gun.

He was a corporal which would mean he was a machine gun section leader.
Don't know about today but 48 years ago a machine gun section leader rated a .45 pistol as a sidearm.

What is the point of having guns and ammo unless you fully intend to shoot someone at some time?

There is nothing like a police state to make one safe. BTW, who is going to do all of those compulsory psychological assessments on about 100 million people and who will pay for it? Will your police state also force all cops and military troops who use guns to be psycho analyzed every year?

I would not be able to run my business efficiently or humanely without firearms and ammunition.

Also, there is the concept of peace through strength. It works.

If American troops get wigged out after a short combat tour the enemy troops must be better able to handle the stress because they endure it for years on end. You would think that if PTSD was common to combat experiences that it would affect just about everyone in war zones. But that doesn't seem to be the case in overseas areas. Is the government tampering with our troops mental and emotional health by some nefarious means?

I'd thought every NCO and Officer rated a sidearm?

Anyone in America who wants a gun for a nefarious purpose can easily get one if he is willing to take the risk. People steal cop guns all the time. A burglar can break into three houses and get about six guns and some ammo. It is risky but doable. Only foolish people who want to use guns for illegal purposes buy one.

That is one of those common sense things that some people seem to be ignorant about.

    *LOADED FIREARMS IN PUBLIC
It is illegal to carry a loaded firearm on one’s person or in a vehicle while in any public place, on any public street, or in any place where it is unlawful to discharge a firearm . (Pen . Code, § 25850, subd . (a) .)*
    https://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/agweb/pdfs/firearms/pdf/cfl2016.pdf?

Now think about it. A bar is a public place so that law applies. Can a person lawfully discharge a firearm in a public place? No, he can not. So, if a person carries a loaded firearm in a bar in California he is in violation of CA Pen. Code, § 25850, subd . (a) .

Common sense is your friend. Every conceivable act known to man is illegal somewhere in America.

I am no expert and not a veteran. I hope any veterans here correct me if I’m in error in any way.

I believe the differences you see are cultural. When middle Eastern fighters go “home” they are heroes. They don’t get mixed messages from society.

I believe the main reason Americans sometimes have a hard time is because historically we have placed a high value on human life and the individual. Causing and observing death has a different effect on those with a working moral compass. I see PTSD in American military as a sign that there is something right with the individual, not something wrong.

I do think the military has room for improvement possibly in vetting combat troops. Again, that’s out of my wheel house but my personal friends who are vets demonstrate some personalities are able to “cope” better than others. My brother almost joined the marines back in the early ‘90’s. He has told me he is thankful he did not. Not because he isn’t a patriot, but because as an older man looking back he can see combat would have destroyed him emotionally.

Regardless, as citizens we owe veterans all the support they need. We ought always to save the criticism for the political sphere and have nothing but pride and honor for the service member.

as many times as I have traveled north on the 101, for some reason I didn’t think you crossed into Ventura county until you crested the hill that has all of the cactus growing on it. And I’ve lived in so cal all my life minus 4 in the military. Derp!

    Of course it was illegal.

    https://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/agweb/pdfs/firearms/pdf/cfl2016.pdf?
*Generally, it is illegal for any person who is not a California licensed firearms dealer (private party) to sell or transfer a firearm to another non-licensed person (private party) unless the sale or transfer is completed through a licensed California firearms dealer . A “Private Party Transfer” (PPT) can be conducted at any licensed California firearms dealership . The buyer and seller must complete the required DROS document in person at the licensed firearms dealership and deliver the firearm to the dealer who will retain possession of the firearm during the mandatory 10-day waiting period . In addition to the applicable state fees, the firearms dealer may charge a fee not to exceed $10 per firearm for conducting the PPT .*

    Imagine that.

People who want to commit mass murder not following the law.

What's your plan, make it double illegal?

If the shooter had been arrested he could have been charged with about 2 dozen various assorted crimes in addition to the murder and attempted murder charges.

    Don't give them any ideas.

A North Korean style neighborhood passport is something that would make them squeal with delight.

well when you run out of sand for the crust in your dung beetle pie, you might need to trade a few pieces of coal with the guy across the street, so i can see where the problem might come in. but then how will you heat the pie?

LOL. I was correct. You aren't even aware of the shootings in the last few weeks. Pretty sad.
