Donald Trump says he is thankful for making 'tremendous difference' to US on Thanksgiving

He has an abrasive personality. Doesn't matter to me. He does things of which I approve. That matters to me. I always ignore what politicians say and concentrate on what they do. I'm aware of the the contributions of Australia to the Allies in WWII. Australia has always been a good friend and ally of the U.S.

 

So.....why is Donald pissing on us, the Kiwis, and the other allies of the US?

Can you tell me what Donald has actually done as POTUS except piss off the Planet other than the Saudis, the Russians and the bloke he 'loves,' that North Korean despot who starves his people?

What are these things he has done of which you approve? Has he build a wall? Did Mexico pay for it? Is America great again, or is he, your POTUS....out here in the real World, the laughing stock, the butt of all jokes? Why? Tell me why you elected that grub, that puzzy grabber, that recidivist bankrupt, that sleaze bag, that liar, that narcissist, that adulterer, that user of prostitutes, that accused paedo, that bloke who lusts after his daughter, the bloke who even cheats at golf.....???? Is he the very best you have there? If so.....the Planet is sharing my despair.

If you are talking about tariffs then all you need to do is get rid of yours and Trump will get rid of ours. His goal is free trade.

Apparently you don't think he should negotiate with them. I tend to agree. The list of his successes is actually pretty long. The most important thing he has done is restore the confidence of the business community.

Yes the world doesn't like that it can't rip off the U.S. any longer. It was nice while it lasted. He has put America first. One assumes your prime minister puts Australia first. If not he should.

I wish I could say that I didn't expect anything different, but I would be wrong. He exceeded my expectations though. Not only did he extend his gratitude to himself, he used his call to the military to talk about politics. His politics. The fact that he has yet to visit a military base in a combat zone notwithstanding, he could have shown little more dignity and grace when speaking with the people who are fighting for peace the world over.

 

And this affects you how exactly?

Yes Australia is a genuine ally that has stuck with America as we have stuck with you good people. I think it's time you cut America some slack. If you are a regular on the forum, you can't have missed the deep angst and anxiety over Trump's actions both domestically and on the world stage. I am not alone in believing our foreign policy is leading us to "America Alone" with greatly weakened alliances.

Trump is not a collective mistake. He is a short term (hopefully) mistake who by alignment of the stars, resulted in the election of an arrogant fool. Most of us have learned, to our dismay, what a mistake we made. We are now a country divided. I can love America enough to be deeply troubled and embarrassed we have put a moron in the White House. But, remember this, Trump is not America or American's. We value our friends and dislike our enemies. Hang in there, we will get over this soon.

 

It doesn't sound like a single Trump critic here actually heard/read the President's remarks. He was very thankful, and expressed it repeatedly. Mentioning how great the US is doing and how proud he is of our military isn't "patting himself on the back". What do you want Trump to do, downplay how great our nation is, for fear his opponents will claim he is really just subtly congratulating himself? Saying "American is great" is not the same as saying "I am great". Would false modesty about the greatness and success of America be more appropriate and inspiring to our troops?

I wish everyone would read the transcript. I found it to be gracious and presidential. It was not at all like this thread is trying to portray it.

Oh! So he goes to North Korea, and falls in love with the fat little young despot (has a weird hairdo like Donald) who murders his own family member, he flies to Europe and stays holed up in his Hotel room 'cause it is raining which prevents him attending a ceremony to honour veterans while other World leaders still attend despite the rain, he flies to the Saudis and does some idiot goof ball sword dance, he flies to some other Leaders event and positively glows when Putin nods at him etc etc etc. Sure, he is not apologising...he is making a foof of himself and by extension, the US. Get rid of him.

Nope, if they did it was far to late! In fact, it was Sir Ronald Wilson and Harold Finch-Hatton "Two of your own" that exposed the sanitation of undesirables/blacks/indigenous people.

Keep in mind British settlers began "sanitation" as early as 1788, the U.S. couldn't have intervened even "IF" reliable information was available! Besides we too were busy "Sanitizing" north America! Only real difference is our adversary's were ruthless as were the Spaniards to the south..

Because so many of the Trump supporters believe that the end justifies the means they let someone who is less than honest, lacks integrity, and maybe just maybe is a criminal get a free ride. There are those who know that his behavior is that of a deranged person and is destroying the credibility of the office but are gutless wonders and will stand up against what is right and not stand up against a wrong doer.
