I'm sorry that you have such a hard time understanding the class 3 process. But, it's quite easy to obtain one. If you are legally able to own a handgun, you are able to purchase a class 3 weapon. Quite easily, as I keep showing you. You'll note that I never said, once, that it is EXACTLY the same as buying any other firearm. I just pointed out that it is a very easy process.
You are wrong. It takes 1-2 weeks to complete a dealer to dealer transfer of Class 3 items, thats the time it takes for the paperwork to be handled. The application goes to the ATF not the FBI. When an individual submits an application for a Class 3 purchase, he must include fingerprints and a photograph, notification of the local LE, a form describing the firearm (appearance, barrel length, serial number, etc). The applicant must also complete the "Necessity Statement" explaining why he needs to have the Class 3 item. An ATF agent reviews the application looking for issues, checks NICS and various watch lists, sends the fingerprints to the FBI for a check, sends a request to the buyers local ATF office for a local LE check. None of that is done for a handgun purchase. Yes ATF is understaffed, that does not mean that all they do is cash a check.
I am not. It is very easy to purchase a class 3 weapon. If you can legally own a handgun, you can purchase any class 3 weapon. You guys keep getting hung up on pretending I said it's EXACTLY the same as buying a normal firearm. I did not say this, as I know it is not. I was an ATF compliance manager at a large FFL/class 3 dealer in Ohio for 3.5 years.
Another thing that is clear is the fact that children are sill safer in school than traveling to and from school. If you are that concerned about saving children's lives why not address the issues that are the greater cause of death among young Americans?
And as you always say we can do many things at once. You are correct but I don't see too many people working on the other issues. They are not the hot topics of news or the internet but they are responsible for more deaths. We can do both but we are not.
True, yet many kids are run over in school zones. Cars like guns are not being kept out of the hands of the irresponsible or criminal. Not long ago near where I live a driver hit another car and killed the entire family. He had five DUI's, no drivers license, no insurance and was drunk. Just like with guns, we are not locking up those who need it. I don't have a link but will try and find one. I read somewhere that there are more children abducted going to or from school than are killed while in school.
Maybe not by itself but maybe we should try it. Maybe we should keep the criminals, drunks and perverts locked up. Since we already have laws on the books maybe we should try enforcing them before we create more.
I think we are not keeping the "bad guys" locked up. I don't think we have tried to keep them locked up forever. How does a guy with 5 DUI end up out on the highway? How does a repeat sex offender end up near a school? How does an felon end up with a gun? If we kept them locked up I wouldn't be asking these questions.
