I don't know how someone on the left can say that. Freedom of speech used to be in vogue, it used to be the cornerstone of society which all sides agreed on. No longer. I would be happy for Trump to lose if the Democrats nominate someone who isn't a complete bloody disaster. I don't think he will win easily, but his approval is 7 points up since last election, it all depends on Dem nominee.
I believe in freedom of speech, but not unlimited freedom of speech as people can construct illusions by spreading falsehoods. It's one thing to jump to wrong conclusions (conspiracy theories), it's an entirely different thing to intentionally spread lies with malicious intent (slander). You wouldn't like it if I told everyone in my town that you had sex with zoo animals. Neither would I if you said that about me. On your second point, I'd say fair enough.
Which speaks to the OP's thread question. I do think this is a ...all hands on deck election for the GOP. The GOP needs DJT. Without Trump ...now or in the 2020 run, the GOP has absolutely nothing and no one that can carry their message.
The problem with DJT and the GOP in the 2020 election is that the Donald Trump's suppy side economic experiment will be showing no long term gains. /dems and GOP better realize that Obama's 2.5% GDP may be the new normal. Trump is never going to see 5% GDP.
I’m not engaging in a Snipe hunt for ypu Because I would waste days looking for something that does not exist
Sorry but 14 minutes is too precious to waste on you Point to the place in the speech where he says what you claim and I will look at it and respond
President Donald Trump has hit out at “very weak” libel laws in the US as he branded an explosive new book detailing the inner workings of the White House as “fiction”. Suggesting he would like to see tougher laws on speech, Mr Trump said that if libel laws “were strong... you wouldn’t have things like that happen where you can say whatever comes into your head” – referring to Michael Wolff’s book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...f-fire-fury-mental-state-latest-a8145741.html
I listened and it was nust as I suspected Either you misunderstood or misrepresented what rudi said He was saying that f hillary wins America will be fundimentally transformed by 12 to 16 years of radical leftwing ideology I would compare it to california which is now a one-party socialist state and will never have a competative election again
Exactly: Fundamentally transformed. That's what I'm pointing out. If one candidate/party is elected in the next election (now it's the 2020 election, then it was the 2016 election), many will say the United States has reached a point of no return. That no new elections can reverse the bad consequences.
We have a habit of when one party or the other, one president or the other goes too far left or right, we kick them out and bring in the other party. Or when we tire of one party of the other and just want a correction. We did this in 2006 during Bush II by kicking the Republicans out and bringing congress under Democratic control. Then to top that off we elected Obama as president in 2008. Then Obama and the Democrats went too far left for us, we elected a Republican House in 2010 to bring about some balance. With Obama in check, we decided to stick with him in 2012, but got tired of his phone and pen strategy, so we elected a republican senate to send a message. We then went with Trump in 2016 in an effort to bring the country back to the right. But we just don't like Trump's way of doing things or the way he acts. Viola, we elected a Democratic House of Representatives in an effort to tell Trump to straighten up. He won't of course. So I think 2020 brings in a democratic president, but we still might want to keep the senate in Republicans hands to avoid another drastic shift to the left as happened during Obama's first two years of total control. We play the game of back and forth here. The party that would realize to govern moderately, more a tuned to middle America, that party could probably remain in total control for the next 20-30 years. But neither party will do that, one party wants to lurch this country to the far right, the other to the far left. That isn't where the majority of Americans are. So back and forth we go. First one party, then the other, then back to the first and so on.
I suspect the next democrat elected will close the door to repubican conservatives and it will be like california for the whole country from now on But rudi certainly wasnt say that republicans planned to kill the two party system as you implied
That's what you thought. I am not pointing to some Illuminati scheme to take away elections. I'm pointing out a 'do or die' attitude many Americans hold regarding elections. The sense of desperation they hold that they only have 1 election cycle to get it right or everything they believe in will be destroyed. And that includes high profile politicians like Ghouliani. Whether such a view is correct or not is a different question. It's undeniable that many hold this view.
bs, pure bs... fyi, democrat does not mean democracy, it's just a title name to a political party aimed at 'fooling' the uninformed into thinking that it means democracy, liberalism is far from democracy as it can get, it's actually totalitarianism
Maybe you are right What harm could it do if conservatives just let the left run everyhing in America? Right?
Well that's a different conversation. By the way, I see now how you misunderstood what I wrote. Let me clarify... When I said the words fascism and communism and other words, I was not accusing Ghouliani of anything. I was saying that these big words when they come out of the mouths of Americans, it reflects their sense of desperation over just one election cycle. Republicans might say: If the Democrats win, it's Stalinist Russia! Democrats might say: If the Republicans win, it's Nazi Germany!
Again, look at one-party democrat rule in california and tell me there is nothing at stake I think the stakes are getting higher for republicans
Don't play that game. The red state example of bad governance would be Mississippi. Worst poverty rate in the country. Then of course there are good examples of red states like low unemployment in North Dakota and Oklahoma. The same however could be said with Vermont that also has low unemployment and a high standard of living and they elected a socialist Senator! As for California, yes there is a problem with fires and homeless people in San Francisco, but it cannot compare with the kind of poverty and forest fires you see in MY country!
Mississippi is stil in play Democrats can and do compete for all the top jobs Thats not true for california
How democratic was the Dem primaries when Hillary was made the candidate before the first ballot was cast (super delegates)? Hypocrite.
Do you feel a sense of finality for the 2020 election? No. After the 2018 elections, I actually feel a sense of hope for 2020. As for Trump. . .May the Force be against him.
I should have offered 6 options: a) Yes, everything I believe in is at stake. The President MUST lose b) Yes everything I believe in is at stake. The President MUST win c) No. It does not matter if the President wins or loses d) No. I'm 100% confident the President will lose e) No. I'm 100% confident the President will win f) Other (explain in comment)
Liberals are so whiny. Its an election, whoever wins or loses will be president, the Republic won't fall. I certainly didn't want Obama to be president, and he was as awful as I figured he would be, maybe worse, but I didn't ever believe the Republic was at stake. Trump is better than Obama ever was, so four more years won't do any lasting harm...
I heard today there could be 40 Democratic candidates if Biden gets picked we could lose I've made my decision for Amy Klobuchar as the best choice for 2020 with Beto O'Rourke as her running mate If I really wanted to go wacko I would go for Klobuchar Flake
