Nancy Pelosi did not shut the government down.

The went to Trump with a deal. Trump made a show of appearing to reject it and bellowed that he would be proud to own the shutdown.

    So, now he does.

Nancy Pelosi put a deal on the table.

Trump noisily pretended to reject it, while signalling to McConnell that he would sign whatever they sent him. Then he want back on his assurance to McConnell, thus betraying the one man he really needs if there is an impeachment.

Trump (and apparantly Trump media and the sheep in that audience) actually believed that people would come running to him.

Trump is now hung out on his own rhetoric and his weak "will he or won't he" negotiating style.

Trump is not a smart enough negotiator to understand that his tactic only works when the other side wants the deal more than he does.

This tactic blew up in Trump's face the first time the GOP tried to repeal the ACA, and set up the failure for the second attempt.

The Democrats have not moved off their position.

Trump is also a poor enough negotiator that he constantly leaves the people under him and around him guessing what he is going to do. This is a sympton of his narcissticic sociopathy. People who fit that profile derive a fundamental satisfaction and a sense of power when they see everyone around them on pins and needles. One of the biggest weaknesses of that personality type is that people affliced with it don't distinguish between friends and rivals when it comes to keeping people off balance. The try to push everyone around them and leave people in the dark. This causes high turnover, fuels office gossip and infighting (all of which feed the boss' personality disorder). And since the folks on the other side of the table can simply walk away and don't have to put up with the childish and unpredictable behavior of Trump, the burden falls on Trump inner circle. Hence the high turnover, the leaks, the gossip and the infighting. The Trump Organization ran the same way.

The wall is dead. Democrats may keep the offer that Pelosi and Schumer offered Trump on December 11th (and which he signalled to McConnel that he would push through). That's all Trump is going to get in the end.

The wall is a crackpot idea. Everyone knows it except the crackpots.

It's a bloody shirt to wave at the Trumpster rallies. That's all it ever was.

Actually, Trump won't care if he loses this battle.

It will be the effective end of his Presidency. He has no credibility as a world leader. He has punked his own GOP leadership in Congress so many times now that they don't trust him, and aren't really all that anxious to move anything he wants.

But when he loses his wall battle, he's still have the wall as a bloody shirt.

And he will wave it at his base for four years.

Right wing demogogues don't actually want to solve problems. They want to rant about them on their media to feed the sense of outrage, alienation and resentment of the target audience.

Righ wing wing bloggers and ex disc jokey commentors have nothing to gain from moving an agenda forward. Limbaugh and Coulter will still have the same audiences they had the day before they decided to bully the weak little man in the White House into getting in front of a government shutdown. But Trump won't.

When this all collapses, Limbaugh and Coulter will still have their fans. And they will be as selfish, narrow minded, parochial and often racist as they ever have been.

But the President, and the office he occupies will look all that much weaker and ineffective.

Which is the trajectory of the Trump presidency.

The so called deal that was offered Trump didn't include funding for a barrier to impede illegal crossings so it's a non starter. Democrats would rather have illegal border crossings thsn give Trump what they feel is a political victory. They are playing politics with Americas security

You can quibble all you want. There will be no wall.

Pelosi and Schumer put a deal on the table. Trump acted as though he was going to reject it.

Trump isn't talking to anyone. He's sitting around the White House expecting everyone to run to him with a deal.

No one owes him anything. And he does not have the power to move his agenda.

His allies have floated a number of face saving options. Trump himself even floated the lie that the wall is actually being built anyway (this is the one lie that Trumpsters are going to retreat to when Trump fails. Trump will declare victory in the midst of not really accomplishing anything, and his base will pretend he won. We've seen this before too.

The wall is a serious and necessary part of border security

Democrats want open borders and a wall separates them from their future base voters

The democrats intransigence on the wall is nothing but politics and they offered no feasible alternative border security in their bill.

Do you have anything of value to contribute here, or are you just going to repeat right wing talk radio one liners in the hope that they will be taken as a substitute for an informed arguement?

No one gave any thought to a wall until Trump used it as a focal point of his race baiting and his white resentment based political campaign.

It is a symbol of intolerance, fear, bigotry and xenophobia. It is a disgrace to real American values.

Retreating behind a wall and cowering in fear of the unknow, as Trump supporters do, is not the American way. This country was not built by no nothings, flat earther, American Firsters, John Birchers and the like. Indeed, this dark underbelly of American political culture has been the fountainhead of nearly every disgrace we have inflicted upon ourselves.

Retreating behind a wall and cowering in fear is what obama and pelosi are doing while denying Americans the same protection

We have to prevent millons of poor hispanics that we do not want or need from invading the US

A wall will help us do that

Well, that's an honest, albeit, indirect response.

I asked you if you had anything of value to contribute other than substituting talk radio slogans for facts or an intelligent arguement.

You responded with a talk radio slogan.

No one is retreating behind a wall except Trump and his supporters.

The wall is all Trump. No one is retreating behind it except him.

And the more idiotic Trumpster posts like this one are, the more obvious it is.

Nancy Pelosi will control the House in two days.

The only deal on the table is the one Schumer and Pelosi already offered, and which the GOP Senate unanimously passed.

And that is the only deal that will be on the table.

If that's your claim, then you're doing the usual right wing game of ignoring what I actually said and trying to put words in other people's mouths.

After all, the political calculus is obvious for everyone to see.

Which is why you could not refute it and instead tried to substitute something you made up and put your words in my mouth.

i have no idea why Trump supporters think this works. But it never does.

    There will be no wall.

I made no comments about border security at all. Which make your response an outright lie. But we're used to that.

Trump lost the wall fight in December 11th, and he did it with no help from anyone. He blustered his way out on a limb in front of the television cameras, and then Pelosi and Schumer handed him the saw, and he cut the limb right out from under himself on live TV.

    You know it too.

Which is why you had to try and put words in my mouth. You had no argument.

Your post I responded to basically said border security was xenophobic so I'm left no recourse but to believe you want open borders.

We don't have any border security at all? My, that's interesting.

Have you actually ever crossed a border? Ever flown back into the country?

    Keep listening to Rush, Joe---

    This is getting nowhere

I hope we can force border security over the deniers objections

But at this point it does not look good
