And I think that making a stand based upon the interpretations of others' intent is on shaky ground. It is better to use fact or professional opinion about the ineffectiveness of such wall.

 

Why is it immoral to want a wall to keep out illegal immigrants? It is not an "iron curtain". It is not designed to keep US citizens from leaving the country like the "iron curtain" separating Berlin.

I think this is what will happen. Since Pelosi was reinstalled as House speaker, dem politicians will think they have a mandate to bully the American people and over reach again like they did in 2010, and then dems will get voted out of office AGAIN in 2020.

There is no way forward if both sides are claiming to know what is in the hearts and minds of those with opposing views. You are claiming that those opposing the wall favor open borders. That is not the case - and has been said time and time again. Just because we oppose a wall as a means to stop illegal immigration does not mean that we are in favor of illegal immigration. And those who are in favor of the wall are not all racist and xenophobic. They truly believe that it is the ONLY way to stop illegal immigration. I may not agree with you on that point, but I respect your right to believe that way. You lose my respect, however, when you claim to know what I believe and want at the border.

Hasn't it occurred to the GOP, that if there is not some groundswell of broad-based support for this barrier, once a democratic administration shows up, its going to be taken down section by section regardless. Whether we do it ourselves, or Mexicans start to undermine it and we turn a blind eye, the thing is a boondoggle, a pain in the ass of communities near it, a eyesore and an insult. There is zero interest in upkeep and maintenance on either side.

I think people have long since figured out how to breach walls if they are determined. This has been going on since the middle ages. We would be smarter to think in the 21st century.

 

You just ignored what I wrote. There are already 27 MILLION legal and illegal immigrants in our workforce according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That's 17 percent of the ENTIRE WORKFORCE,

It has stagnated U.S. wages for decades, not to mention kept citizens from improving their own situation. There's NO EXCUSE for that many immigrants in our workforce coming out of a severe recession, except to benefit corporations.

These are the REASONS for immigration laws in the first place. Other reasons include disease carried in, criminals crossing in, caravans, etc. etc. etc.

EVERY measure possible must be taken to end it.

Most of us believe a wall is a good start and a effective deterrent for all illegal activity. Our major problem is with all the hypocrites who voted for a wall in the past but now demonize it as immoral and their only opposition is really because President Trump has made it a priority.

 

I don't think you OVERknow what you are talking about. There are sections, around border cities, that had a section of fence. You Trump supporters say, Trump is Just doing what Obama did, but with a Hitler twist.
