Does it make any difference? Guns are stolen all the time. Some of it is due to stores that will not permit concealed carries in their stores. Forcing owners to leave them in a car. Others are stolen in home burglaries. No one can completely be safe from thieves. To hold the legal owners of weapons liable for the acts of thieves is disingenuous. If someone steals your car then does a drive by shooting should you be liable? After all this would never have happened if you had secured your vehicle.

So what was the father charged with by the police? His son's guns were confiscated but not taken away but just given to his father. So clearly his father is not a responsible gun owner. Yes, guns treated just like toys

 

Appears there were multiple civil liability cases but he claimed he talked to police and that he didn't know about his son's mental illness, I can't find out what the results of the hearing was.
