Democrats passed the same bill that the republican senate previously passed with unanimous bipartisan support that mitch is now refusing to even floor.

The votes are there to reopen the government
The votes are there to override a presidential veto and reopen the government

This entire thing is a perversion of governmental protocol and a disgrace to the people

So we agree. Trump is trying to extort Dems using threats and intimidation, and they won't let him. Thanks for confirming.

    Well that was easy.

If presidential signoff wasn't needed, the founding fathers would not have included it in the Constitution. Duh It's NOT Trump's job to rubberstamp, that's not what he was duly elected to do.

The founders' intent was negotiations and compromise in case of a stalemate. Trump is willing to, the Dems are MIA.

Trump is exercising his constitutional prerogative to negotiate the bill that he finds lacking. That was the founding fathers intent in the first place. The Dems are the ones refusing to negotiate and resorting to extortion, while they hold the entire country hostage.

The votes exist to override a presidential veto.
He isn’t needed for anything on this issue.

I don’t believe the founders intent was to allow a single member of a 535 member legislative branch to stop a bill because he is protecting the executive branch. They are supposed to be checks and balances of one another not colluding together.

What Trump needs to stop doing is reaching out to Democrats.

When Pelosi and Schumer are ready to grow up they can go crawl to McConnell...

Good, override it then and it will become law... but if they can't, the job of the Democrat lawmakers is to fing NEGOTIATE and seek a mutually acceptable solution Jeez

You can believe or disbelieve all you want but Presidential veto power IS checks and balances on the executive branch, granted to the president by the founding fathers and somehow i imagine they knew what they were doing. Duh

Trump rejected a Democrat led proposal to open the government. Trump rejected a bipartisan led proposal to open the government. Trump rejected a Republican led proposal to open the government.

I get why you want to blame Democrats. You are smarter than Trump.

Unfortunately for you, Trump's base is the only portion of the electorate which buys that messaging. And the numbers are continuing to get worse for Trump.

As he should, until the House submits a compromise bill acceptable to all parties involved.

Didn't the house pass a spending resolution including funding for the wall?

Dems rejected Trump's counter-proposal to include money for the wall and open the government.

Dems refuse to negotiate the differences and seek a mutually acceptable compromise as the OP demonstrates. It's their constitutional responsibility and they are failing and keeping the country hostage instead.

This is a rise of one percent of likely voters.

Trump is waiting this out to allow for a thorough saturation of information to be absorbed by the average non-voter about the exact issues in play.

Trump just needs to grow a pair and reopen the government.

Meetings (unless Trump plans to cave in) are a waste of time.

Trump is making overtures to keep it in the news cycle. The longer this goes on, the more of a focus will be placed on the contrast in actual stances.

5.7 billion for a wall that most voters think will help the border patrol do their job. Less than 1 tenth of 1% of the total Federal budget.

53% of likely voters want a strong border.

I hear the Democrats are still refusing to negotiate and compromise preferring to keep the government shutdown.

Trump knows that he just needs to wait this out.

Meanwhile, he needs to keep it in the news cycle to totally expose the differences between the two perspectives. Pelosi totally sold the farm when she said, "NO," to Trump's question.

Because an increasing number of Americans blame trump for the shutdown as a roundabout way of attacking democrats.

Meanwhile, trump's shutdown is going to cut twice as much as he previously estimated from the GDP.

Trump couldn't get Mexico to pay for his wall, so he is asking the US taxpayers to pay twice as much.
