Coast Guard isn't DOD, it's DHS.

I sympathize with anyone who's struggling, but like I said... its not like this has never happened before. Young govt employees with families to support are learning the lesson most feds already know. Shutdowns happen. Be prepared.

How many are required to check under the walls for tunnels?

Would it help to curb crossing if there was a physical barrier included in that plan?

How many drones would be needed to catch them coming out of a hole in the ground? They can do that anyway, to avoid drones.

Working for the Federal Govt? You've got to be kidding. Most govt jobs pay more than private sector and the benefits are very generous. Theyre not called gravy jobs for nothing.

Both of those are included in Trumps border security proposal. All the Dems have to do is sign it and we'll all go back to work.

Running a ground penetrating radar along the border will do it fairly quickly. It is not as if they have to do it on a daily basis.

Depends on the barrier. A 2,000 mile wall is a useless waste of money.

Sure thing. Get rid of the moronic wall and trumps got a deal.

Its part of the deal. Obamacare was moronic. A wall makes perfect sense.

Obamacare was an attempted fix of our broken healthcare system. The majority of Americans support it.

A wall is useless. The majority of Americans don’t want it.

There can't be border patrols every mile. Don't you think a wall would discourage some from crossing? It's not $5B, it's the cost of paying for a birth that gets spread among citizens' insurance rates to make up. It's the cost of seeing a doctor, medications, food, housing, water, sewerage, education, electricity, auto insurance and many other thing which go up for the rest of us, because they want to live here without becoming a citizen.

Frankly, I'm surprised the socialist left is supporting them. Don't they realize they will have to pay for their health and welfare? It isn't going to come from businesses. No corporation is going to just offer up profits, and if they are forced, what will happen to everyone's 401k? It's a very complicated situation that dems want to play off as nothing. They are the only ones who get anything out of this. Well, them and corporations, which democratic socialists hate. So why would those socialists support them? Wouldn't they support getting them on the tax rolls with laws and border security of all kinds?

This is what doesn't make sense to me. The democratic socialists are like some kind of dreamers who think they are going to just make things happen, but they can't unless they force folks. There will have to be company takeovers, folks who disagree will have to be placed in prison camps or work camps, which is the same thing. They cannot do it without killing, yet they say they want a kinder gentler society? I don't think they thought this out well.

A wall stops none of this.

Yes, and intelligent Americans know the best way to reduce costs is with competition. Remove laws that stop competition and you will have lower insurance rates for a while. Nothing is permanent. Even the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics only lasted from 1917 until 1991.

A wall reduces the numbers coming across, which in turn reduces costs. When combined with changes around birth and citizenship, which I believe was meant only for those of citizen parents, it will slow the flow of blood. Of course, some drones might be helpful but they are more like toys for children. They won't be armed and we can't be shooting anyone who comes across. They must be captured and go through due process. They must then be imprisoned, here, not sent back to try again. Now, what do you do with children born to these women who cross illegally? Send them back with their child. Keep the father/guardian in prison to serve her sentence, too. Can't hurt children. Don't want to take them from their mom.

Then, go after businesses and take away the ability for Congress to get paid by them and get rich at our expense.

They are called gravy jobs and many pay much less than the private sector, have generous benefits, don't have the oversight that comes with working in the private sector and is good for the long term no matter what the work ethic is.

Yep, except Ive never heard of a govt job paying less than private sector. Most low skill jobs (file clerks, mailroom, etc) are farmed out to contractors. Fed employees have lots of perks... between compressed schedules and flexiplace (working from home), many are only in the office a day or two a week. Add paid time off due to shutdowns and they really are gravy jobs. Most feds would be hard pressed to succeed in a private sector job

Carrying around a 31 ft ladder would sure put a damper on illegals crossing our border, huh? All they need now is their 2 feet.

Well, you have a point. That's the reason for the change in laws in combination with a good wall. without both changes and more, your suggestion will work. I think a thirty foot ladder will be a little heavier with the changes in laws. It might be easier to go through entry points after being mailed a work visa.
