I see you're trying to move the goalposts there...

football players should be able to kneel, stand, salute, lay down on the field, stand with their backs to the flag if they so choose. Last time i checked, the first amendment was still in effect.

The kids were displaying a Trump banner, not a U.S. flag with Trump's face on it, had gotten the impression the U.S. flag was involved here, but it wasn't really. It was obviously an attempt to rattle the other team, mostly black and from the city in all likelihood. Why would a Trump Banner taunt or rattle another team? Easy, because blacks and city people did not vote for him and are freely participating in a mass scale propaganda campaign against him. So long as this is not accompanied by any nasty things said or actions, there is nothing wrong with it. This kind of thing goes on in HS sports in far more insulting ways.

I recall the massive whole wall-sized Obama painting in the Philadelphia HS gym polling place that wasn't covered on election day against campaign rules, until someone complained, and then it was only partially covered. I have a strong hunch that when Obama was in the WH, HS kids from urban HS used Obama banners, paintings and signs in the exact same way all over the country. Wouldn't be at all surprised if the city school did this originally while Obama was in office, and that's how this whole thing started.

Coach overreacted. For me, not for thee, the mantra of the Left always.

There are no goal posts to move since it's not a sporting event. Nice try at derailing a thread.

They can do that. Then the team owner can trade them, release them, or simply not play them.

So from what I read there is nothing that actually says "Trump" on it, just the American flag. If the coach identifies the American flag with Trump his opinion is worthless. What kind of idiot takes over 200 years of history and then just throws it out the window after half a term of one President?

Anthem is not needed to achieve this. Never had the anthem before any of my little league baseball and football games, high school football games, wrestling matches or lacrosse games and my teammates and I had no problem bonding as a team. It's the process of going through hard practices that bonds players....it's the winning and losing games that bonds players and community...not the anthem.
We, the tv viewers, watching regular season games on Sunday's don't see the anthem as it's not televised...so how have we been able to bond with our team? The answer is through the games and the players.

Actually it was the coach that kept his players in the locker room during the anthem which makes his condemnation of what kids on the other team were doing of their own volition kind of a joke.

In this era where NFL knee takers just stood up and we're offered the option to stay in the locker room during the anthem the conotation is obvious.

I wonder what would happen to students who would have dared to protest Obama?

It's kids who can't vote holding a political sign. Same same as in the OP photo.

Except when they're on company time. They're not getting paid to protest. What a weak response.

I have never been to a sporting event without it. Also true it is not needed but I would say it is desirable.

Really? The issue is not the flag, its the appropriateness at a high school sporting event. Now, if those little girls were holding the Obama sign at the same kind of event, I would have the very same reaction.

...at a high school sporting event? No? Not the same. It isn't about the sign, its about the location. And if you can't see that, then I guess we'll have to agree to disagree here, and save ourselves a lot of time and energy.

ah, so your objection to political sloganeering by minors applies only to sporting events? are there any other venues in which you would object? and are we talking just high school? or do you apply your objections to college sports? pro sports? do you apoly your objections to adults or just minors?
