As I said, that bill for the 43 billion and 700 miles of fence was connected to getting citizenship for the 11 million people here. . They had to meet certain qualifications. But they were spelled out in the bill. It would have never got Democratic votes without the ability of citizenship.

John Cornyn voted against leadership's immigration plan at committee ...

    https://www.politifact.com/.../john-cornyn-voted-against-leaderships-immigration-/

Feb 10, 2014 - Stay Connected: ... the legislation drafted by the Gang of 8 --four Senate Democrats and four ... the story said, and required the construction of 700 miles of fencing there. .... secure before allowing immigrants to start the pathway to citizenship, according to a news story in The Hill, a Capitol Hill publication.

One of these days Sandy your going to learn I don't make statements that isn't true.

First of all, that is just the beginning of what Trump wants. If he get his way, the next time there is a financial crisis he will demand another 500 miles and he will shut the government down again if he doesn't get his way just as he did this time. The Democrats know this. You think that makes Trump a great negotiator, and that is why you support him.

It doesn't take a crystal ball to know what Trump would do if the Democrats caved on the wall issue, which is the least possible deterrent to illegal immigration there is. All one has to know is Trump's 40 year history of negotiating. If his tactics work, he will do again. He will combine whatever he wants with the next financial crisis and he is not even close to being satisfied with $5.7B. In other words, if there is a political difference between Trump and everyone else, including his own party, as is the case here, Trump will shut down the government.

You know that. It is why you used a personal insult instead of challenging what I said. Never mind attacking me. Do you disagree with my analysis? If so, explain why. Anyone?

You said, "It was turned down because the Democrats wanted citizenship for 11 million people and chain immigration."

From your source: "The legislation did not offer blanket legal residency to unauthorized immigrants while it mandated fines, background checks and waiting periods, making it tougher than its 1986 predecessor. However, the proposal did afford a measure of clemency to those immigrants, who would not be required to return to their home countries." Which, of course, was a common sense solution. How do you deport 11 million people? You don't.

Also, from your source, "Cornyn voted against the measure when it cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee by 13-5 in May 2013." The bill passed in the Senate and was blocked by Republicans in the House.

You’ve been repeating those lies so often, you actually believe it. Try this one saying, one that will actually help you. ‘ education is good. “
Eventually you’ll learn to think for yourself.

Well if you think anything in that post is a lie, you need to get off these discussion pages and see what's going on. Obviously you have been living in a cocoon and haven't the slightest idea of what is going on. Typical for a Liberal. .

    That they do.

On June 27, 2013, the Senate sent the House an immigration proposal "that would allow millions of illegal immigrants the chance to live legally in the United States and to eventually become U.S. citizens," the Washington Post said in a news story posted that day. The legislation, which did not draw widespread House support, also called for doubling the number of U.S. Border Patrol agents along the U.S.-Mexico border, the story said, and required the construction of 700 miles of fencingthere. In addition, employers would newly be required to check the legal status of all job applicants using the government’s E-Verify system, the Post reported.

In reminiscing about the two years that Republicans controlled both houses of Congress and hosed Trump on his $5.7 billion fantasy wall that he had repeatedly promised Mexico would pay for (a policy the Democratically-controlled House now perpetuates) it's obvious that his tantrump in which he brayed that he was "proud" to shut down the government and would not try to blame others for it, was triggered, after his sulking for two years, by Turtle McConnell's ignoring Trump's desperate, eleventh hour plea:

Trump instructed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to use the nuclear option to end the filibuster and pass funding for the border wall:

McConnell, in essence, replied, "Go pleasure yourself with a rolled-op copy of Forbes."

Of course, most Americans, by a large margin, oppose giving Trump $5.7 billion for his "big, beautiful wall" that he repeatedly promised Mexico would pay for.

Keep exchanging* ideas with fellow trumpers instead of getting out into the real world and thinking for yourself.

Yup.....his absolute best applause line to his fellow racists was “ Mexico will pay for a big 2000 concrete wall. Now they’re willing to pay 5.7 billion if their own money for a 100 mile fence...
    Go figure.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Obama tell us our insurance would be $2,500.00 cheaper and we could keep our same doctor and plan?

Didn't he also assure us if elected he had one million shovel ready jobs just waiting for him?

But you had no problem with those lies did you?

All this was 100% true if you mean insurance would be cheaper for comparible coverage.....and if your state bought into Medicaid expansion which he explained. Unfortunately, govs of all the repo states refused to participate. GOP would rather people die .

Only a person completely unfamiliar with science would bother to ask such a question.

I sincerely appreciate your help, but you can waste a lot of your time getting into a pissing contest with Marine 1.

This thread concerns Putin's control over Trump and Trump's willingness to please Putin, which includes shutting down the government over a personal whim, surrendering the Mideast to Russia, disclosing the secret destination of Congressional leaders visiting embattled troops, refusing to blame Russia for interfering in our elections, telling his lawyer to lie to Congress, and creating a new crisis nearly every day.

    You know, stuff like that.

The RINOs of Trumpery crap on yet another mainstay of conservatism as they flail their pom poms for their "God Emperor"'s seizure of private property by eminent domain.
Before they bent over for their Trumpery indoctrination, conservatives found Lyin' Don's embrace of Big Government's high-handed intrusiveness repugnant, anathema to their core principles:

Why do you say I had no problem with your attempted diversions? If you feel you need to duck the pertinent matter in that way, please document your reasons for presuming my attitude concerning bygone issues.

How do your historical allusions relate to the current matter of Trump being proud to now shut down the government because Congress, for two years, has failed to give him $5.7 billion of US taxpayer money for a wall that he had repeatedly promised Mexico would pay for, and that most Americans oppose by a wide margin?

Republicans, during the two years they controlled both houses of Congress, hosed Trump:

Well, unfortunately, it didn't work. Even though they lost the House in a referendum on Trump, losing 40 seats in the process, for some strange reason they still think Trump is their messiah. Becoming his lackeys, they are afraid to cross him even when it makes sense.
