Can islam afford to allow Rahaf Mohammed to leave? It is self evident that islam is anti women. However, muslim women through history have had little alternative but to submit to the teachings of islam and to accept their second class status. However, through social media and the internet more generally, women like Rahaf Mohammed have gained an insight into the possibilities available to them within the non-Islamic world.
It is a bold statement but, this could provide an insight into the eventual demise of islam!
Personally, I fear for Rahaf Mohammed. I believe there is much more at stake here than just giving effect to one teenagers rebellious impulse. She needs to change her appearance, her name, and her country. The Saudis know she is in Canada. Her image has appeared in newspapers everywhere and she has a very distinctive look. She literally needs to disappear. For her sanity, she also needs to find a community that will support and sustain her, and more importantly, will not betray her.
Oops...does that mean she cant trust anyone.....

Promote feminism and the empowerment of women throughout Australia in any way possible, so as muslim women can see how women are treated outside islam............

That is true, but I'd point out that the hadith is pretty cleat cut, and while people can believe whatever they want, it doesn't really make sense to deny it.

Christians have made this transformation where they basically ignore the Bible and still call themselves Chriatian. It's a good thing if Muslims are as well.

 

I am remembering back to my HSC, there was a young Australian girl at school. Every afternoon she went home with a friend of hers. It was not until one day she didn't turn up at school that the truth came out .

Her father (a very staunch Christian) and strongly believing in the teachings of the Bible, forbid his daughter from going to school after she turned 15.

Apparently he found out she was and beat her and she ended up taking her own life.

It is something I have seen similar sorts of things in very strict Christian homes.

The Bible actually is very poor in its treatment of woman.

This sort of thing goes on, yes, but it's cultural not religion.

It's like when you and I examined FGM, we found it was cultural not religious.
