What if there is some really cool stuff under those ice sheets?

Will you people ever figure out what “global” means? When will you learn that 187 countries signed that agreement and a couple of yellow vests in Paris does not equal a world wide conspiracy

When you are talking to the inmates at the asylum, it's best to have them think that you agree with them. You "mirror" their logic, so they think you are on their side, and normal people see how far they have lost touch with realty.....

Cortez needs more than someone taking "shots" at her- she desperately needs to be committed and get some serious therapy.

My link earlier was to NOAA site that is interactive where you can alter your he amount of sea level rise and see what parts of the. USA submerge

How is it that you think that if Trump says something blunt, (or what you might call foolish) the left is authorized to go into a total melt-down that dismisses all traces of judgment and character- But reacts with ho-hum indifference to the statements of total nincompoops like Cortez, which they have elected?

The left- liberals, progressives, left-leaning democrats, are currently demonstrating the grossed lack of character, judgment, integrity and just plain intelligence that the nation has ever seen. The abuse and attack of values, morals, traditions and things that have built the nation has been relentless as well as stupid and devoid of common sense. While the conservatives have tried to be patient, tried to use logic to show the imbalance, every effort to create any kind of useful exchange only results in an increase of the abuse. A lot of people with old-school values are more than tired of it- we have had it. Being nice doesn't get nice from the left, it only encourages the bad attitude.

If you act like an ignorant, arrogant teenage jackass from the reform school, then we will call you exactly that. Cortez fits that description across the board. She deserves to be exposed, and for that matter- mocked, because she is too stupid to control her own conduct or to even be embarrassed, to even know when she has made a "foolish" statement. "World will end in 12 years" isn't just foolish. That's tin-foil hat territory. The woman is a mockery of intelligence, elected by people with the same limited capacity.

Ask yourself what the left and MSM would be doing right now if Trump had said that. Ask that honestly in your own mind, so nobody else will know... so you don't need to lie to yourself. The left is also expert at public hypocrisy and denials- and that is how you wind up with people like this dingbat bartender that can't think.
Bias rules over judgement and reality.

You expect too much of these people. They have concluded that the glaciers voluntarily retreated without significant temperature change, to make more room for humanity, because we are so special. Being so special, so all-knowing intelligent, we should be able to control the earths geologic cycles too. Perhaps pass laws against mother nature refusing to cooperate. Yeah- that would work.

One of these days/years maybe they'll be able to come up with good projections. Changing to 4 times faster in a couple of years does not say much for their knowledge or accuracy.

That is a really good point. I have been trying to convince people for a long time that their projections are questionable. The few projections which they have made which could be verified in the short term have generally been wrong. And therefore there is good reason to question any forecast they make. .For me, that brings into question any conclusion which they might have had about cause and effect in the past.

I don't believe or disbelieve man made global warming. But anyone who believes this is an established science is kidding themselves.

This is definitely a failure on the scientific community's part. They've had an embarrassing history of underestimating the warming and ice melt especially at the North Pole. But even at the South Pole the IPCC was saying sea ice would continue to increase at least through 2025 and possibly even until 2050 before an established decline could be predicted with confidence. And yet here we are...the last 3 years at the SH have seen dramatic declines in ice which have whipsawed from record highs in 2014 to record lows. And for those that don't know. Ice sheets perched on land are a concern for sea level rise, but this concern is long term. The short term concern is the sea ice because that's what modulates the albedo feedback.

It is likely the albedo which is causing the rapid melting of the Greenland ice. Anyone who has spent much time in snow country has observed this phenomena. As soon as dark surfaces become uncovered by the snow, the rate of melt and evaporation accelerates dramatically. It may or may not have anything at all with global warming.

They are forced to make only the most conservative predictions or they get killed by the crackpot deniers.

We've known for a long time that fairly short-term catastrophic events could result. Michio Kaku believed we probably passed the point of no return over a decade ago.

That is some excuse. Don't pick the most likely scenario because it might make them look bad. That is exactly the one which is the most important.

It's the same with the 1.5C lower bound on the warming. A lot of scientists were puzzled when the IPCC dropped it from 2.0C in AR4 to 1.5C in AR5. Was there a conservative political motivation behind this puzzling drop? The scientific consensus overwhelmingly agrees that 1.5C is too low and the IPCC is supposed to be a proxy for the consensus.

And for those that don't know...the puzzle here is that the Earth has already warmed by 1.0C since 1960 and we aren't even 50% of the way to a doubling of CO2 yet. And that 1.0C of warming is only the transient climate reponse (TCR). We still have to wait another 30-50 years before the equilibrium climate response (ECR) plays out. In other words, even if we ceased all CO2 emissions the troposphere would still warm for another 40 years or so. This is why most scientists think 1.5C is already baked in even at less than a 1.5x increase in CO2 concentration.

No one is saying that. But if you think illegal immigration here and in Europe is bad now, just wait until we have tens of millions of people trying to relocate from regions hit hardest by early changes. Wait until major cities start having real water shortages. We only seen hints of what's to come.

But then what do I care? I don't have kids or grandkids to worry about. ;)

They always stick to the most conservative estimates for political reasons. Apparently 1.5C was still possible in the models.

They'll have about 3970 feet of expropriated land to use before they get to me. And mine is way too mountainous/rocky to be useful.

The IPCC is predicting < 1m rise by 2100. The catastrophic rises are more speculative in nature and are believed to be a post-2100 issue. This leads me to believe that sea level rise will be slow enough at least through 2100 that cities will expand inland to compensate for coastal loss or they'll build flood walls Dutch style. Either way I don't see your property or those inheriting it as being adversely affected. You just simply are too far removed from this particular issue of climate change. Just my $0.02...
