Is it wrong to wear a MAGA hat?

Doesn’t matter because people will not stop generalizing, MAGA boys also generalize people, Mexicans, blacks, Jews, and they will be generalized as hateful racists.

 

It led some to ask: If the boys hadn't been wearing the MAGA hats, would the confrontation have escalated as it did?

John Pavlovitz, an author, pastor, and activist from North Carolina, said the boys might not have fully understood the loaded meaning those hats carry for some people.

"To be present at that gathering is one thing, but to be present in those hats is a completely different statement," Pavlovitz said. "There’s no sense of compassion in those hats to most people, so that hat becomes a threat.

"They are no longer a neutral symbol. Whenever those hats are worn, they’re going to make a statement that brings with it many assumptions — a resistance to diversity, a resistance to equality. There’s homophobia in the image of those hats that comes automatically when we see them.

So its a race to the lowest levels of civilization? For decades liberals tried to end stereotypes, now they seem intent on labeling every last group with a tag based on whether they perceive them good or bad. How about judging each individual based on your experiences with them as a person?

 

Okay, who then? Who do you define to be opponents, who are also provoked by trump hats, which makes you happy?

 

Let's see...I'm from a conservative and Catholic school on a field trip in D.C. My adult chaperones want to able to find me. Dark colored hat? Hey, what about red? Stands out.

 

You don't choose to be a particular race. You do choose to advertise your allegiance to a two-bit thug.

 

So in stopping generalization of people we should generalize the people we think are responsible. It just seems like fighting a fire with gasoline to me

But, it is legal. Every American has the right to be utterly, tragically wrong.

 

Again, where did I say happy? I said I want to ID them. From their immature reaction.

 

I don't like Trump and I think some people wear the hat to project a form of racism, the same reason some people might fly Confederate flags.

But a person should be able to wear the hat and/or fly the Confederate flag without harassment. But I've seen videos where people have been harassed in restaurants or even refused service for wearing a MAGA hat. Not cool.

 

There can be many reasons why a person votes the way they do it’s not a black and white thing.

 

Oh yeah, well I wear a MAGA thong.....how do you like those apples? Don't pretend you are not impressed.

 

Trigger: As in pulling a trigger? Did you mean the horse? Was it a euphemism? Was it a dysphemism?

I believe that it is bad taste to wear or display election campaign gear after the election is over, let alone two years after the election is over. That is especially true when the election has produced one of the most divisive presidents to be elected ever. Wearing a MAGA hat basically tells others that you enjoy the divisiveness and thrive on it -- not a good thing.

In the same mold, I was critical of people having Obama stickers on their cars years after the election.

 

Well, MAGA under wear may be a tidy whitey thing:

Some people just view such symbols the way some other people view flag-burning.

 

I’m sure that there probably is a part of the people who wear the MAGA hat who are trying to be “edgy” so to speak yea. Also my own personal belief that who I vote for is private but I won’t bash people who want to advertise their beliefs I also won’t threaten or harass anyone because of them. Appreciate a different opinion though

 

Doesn’t that seem a. A bit premature b. A snap generalization. I mean there’s a variety of different reasons a person could be wearing the hat that’s why it’s important to treat everyone as an individual and try not to generalize imo.

People are so easily offended today, it's not worth the risk to incite violence in public. That is unless you're looking to instigate something. I've heard people getting their cars keyed or destroyed over a bumper sticker.

 

I have no problem with people advertising their beliefs and their candidate BEFORE the election. AFTER the election, I would prefer the country to come together and unite behind common goals. Keeping shoving the campaign gear into the other side's face is just not conducive to that goal. Of course, we know that Trump thrives on divisiveness, so it is not surprising that this issue is more prevalent now than it has been with other presidents. I am not sure if anyone was displaying or wearing Clinton campaign gear two years after he was elected.

 

Your free to your opinion but I’d just say there are a variety of reasons why a person would wear that hat and there not all evil reasons.
