A better response for you: “But, but but but but but US of A has CIA and it’s all their fault! They snuck the dead foot into Russia and made Russian priest dip it into drinking water!!”

"Russians drunk water after a decomposed foot was dipped in it"

I do not understand this headline. Drinking water made him drunk because there was a decomposed foot in it? What does that mean .... the foot was fermented?

I wonder what sort of people post such news? Stupid people who don't know anything about Russia but they are trying to pretend they know. Pity, miserable people blind with their hatred. They are ready to find and bring here any peice of sh*t from anywhere. But they are too ignorant and too silly, they are not able to check infromation at a minumum rate. It's not Russia, it's Romania, people write in the twitter comments.

Possible, Romanians are very religious(old people). Is that a foot of a Saint? Anyway it's sick.

I remember my parents obliging me to kiss the remains of a Saint, Paraschiva. But it was behind glasses. It was fking scary for a child, nothing blissful or holy

    I misspelled a word.
Wouldn’t expect you, russians, to understand the concept anyway.

I wonder - what does russian church do with the genitals of saints? Do they have another priest that dips them into holy water for russian believers to drink?

The same is written in the article. It's Romania. Small community of Russian old believers' church, they settled in Romania in the second half of 18th century. Then it was Turkey. From the point of view of Russian orthodox church it's like a sect. Prbably the same as Jehovah's Witnesses.

That's nice, but the US Senate confirmed a torturer as CIA head. We are what we do.

Religion comes in package with wierd customs.

There is another tradition of swimming and retrieving a cross from the depths of the black sea... In the winter. Some people die trying. That's more disturbing than drinking water dipped in remains.
I do believe Romanians are the same religion freaks as russians(old people). Atleast from my experience. Both kin can do wierd stuff in the same of God. Atleast we don't blow up infidels

Romania was invaded alot of times by Muslims...
Dunno for sure about other places, but in Romania, many different people and religions coexist.

A story: while visiting my ex, who had a syrian Muslim dad and a Romanian orthodox mother(converted to Muslim ofc) , an earthquake happened. The father quickly jumped to the rug and starting Allah praying very loud in the wierd language. The 3, rest of us, started to laugh histerically at him for the act in the middle of the quake. I can never forget it.

Even if he was the usual Muslim, fanatic by usual standards, he did not impose it on the doughter, she was very libertarian and anti religion, as most milenians. He was fine with it.

The custom of retrieving a cross from the waters on the day of the Epiphany/Theophany is practiced all over the Orthodox world. In the Jordan River where the baptism actually occurred, God reveals Himself in a way which can only be considered miraculous. It's basically the same as He does in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher with the miraculous Holy Fire on the day of His Resurrection.

When prayers are said and the Cross is thrown into the River Jordan the waters start flowing backwards until the Cross is retrieved. Then it returns to its natural course. Of course the Russians being Russians and wanting to test their beliefs through their endurance, developed the custom of entering waters in the middle of winter. Brrrr!
