This guy should go to jail. The two accomplices if they did not lie to investigators may get off, but the certainly did not go voluntarily to the police to disclose it was hoax and Smollett was lying so that may get them.

I CHANGED my mind.

At the time, I will admit I jumped the gun.

However, as details started to emerge (especially the LOCATION of the attack--Since I am very familiar with the area) I started having serious doubts as to the veracity of Smollett's story.

The minute I heard the exact location (between Loews and the Sheraton), I realized it was most likely BS. Thus, today's events came as no surprise.

I said that I would apologize about 45 pages back if he admits to it being fake or police issue a statement saying they believe the attack is fake.

 

That's all well and good, and I certainly think there is no harm, no foul, if someone changes their mind as new evidence is acquired. That's what we're supposed to do after all. However what you said was, "Jussie's story never passed the smell test." Clearly it did pass the smell test with you initially. So you should have been honest and just admitted you changed your mind instead if acting as if you always thought there was something fishy with his story; clearly you didn't. And you definitely should have admitted you were wrong about, "A couple of Trump-Inspired RW Homophobic Terrorists (committing a Hate Crime in the name of MAGA)."

 

For now but his story is unraveling quickly so don't be shocked when they suddenly call him in for questioning, formally.

 

I don’t see why you would have to apologize, just learn from this, if in fact it is a hoax.

 

I also like the idea of a Max Fine (25k) to cover police costs and possible lost business in the area.

However, given the high profile nature of the case (and if he gets a good lawyer and is a first-time offender), he might just get a Fine and Probation.

Chicago has a well-known habit of cutting people loose on probation.

Now, I see (above me) that my friend MrTLegal has posted a sort of "retraction/non-confirmation" from the Supt. of the CPD.

In any event, I still don't buy Smollett's version of events.

It doesn't pass the smell test (especially given the location).

 

I'm gonna actually and genuinely applaud you for this post AJ - It takes a man to admit he was wrong.

 

An apology is all well and good, but when you do have time to address this, I would really like to know why, when this story came out, you, as a legal trained person, bought it hook line and sinker. Meanwhile, I, when I heard the detail about the "noose" immediately realized that this was probably a hate crime hoax.

So what were the elements of this story that rang true to you?
